Hey,

I was just setting up to start a new inventory and realized what a unique set
of tools I had acquired over the years for this work. This is what I use for
listing items in my shop and for creating new inventories on BrickLink. Not shown
are the fantastic LED magnifying lamp used to light this photo and, of course,
my camera.

Just thought I would share as I expect some of you have the same stuff!

Thanks for sharing, Jen!

From a buyer-only perspective, I find this interesting.
What is the name of the tool above the ruler in the lower right corner?

Dig the color chart. I've been trying to figure out how to make something
like that but I was going the route of writing the color next to the sample -
didn't think about just referencing the number.

Not “now” but yes, unless I’m quoting, coding, adhering to some rule, or making
a ‘mistake,’ I use British English spelling.

Unparliamentary language!

We're supposed to say "proper English spelling" not "French French".

Sorry, but I wasn’t using “British” as an indication of “properness” but as an
indication of dialect: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_English

And indeed, “French French” is a bit awkward¹ and that’s why we say “français
de France” https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Français_de_France | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_of_France

¹ Unless you’re “Wizzz!”… but that’s a so franco-française and old reference
I must be the only one still getting it

Fascinating! You Canadian sellers really have a lot to contend with shipping
orders.

What is that rule based on? Is it for sorting machines or so mail can actually
fit through door slots? I would think that it's a pretty small percentage
of overall styles for mail delivery. My old house still has its original slots
for mail delivery, but they are so small you'd have to fold a postcard to
get in them. We just have the holes covered over and a big basket for our mail
carrier to drop stuff in.

Just curious!

Can’t say I’ve ever heard a reason but considering in some places it’s more so
a guideline then an actual rule and I’ve received stuff larger then it before
on many occasions without issue I can at least piece together it likely isn’t
a physical restriction during the sorting process

The slot is about postage costs. If it fits through the 2 centimeter slot, you
can send it lettermail rates, but if it doesn't, your buyer will pay at
least $10.00 - $16.00 or more for regular parcel shipping. I don't know what
it is based on, except someone picked a number for the upper limit thickness
for lettermail.

I'm often amazed to see just how much Lego can be coaxed into a thin package
that will fit the slot.

Not sure with the latter three since I haven't inventoried a new set for
the site before, but that color bar is to make sure you're entering the right
color. This is particularly useful if you're sorting through (literally)
tons of used lego that don't have a set number you can just punch in and
have the system auto-populate everything for you.

The color chart is for matching colors. It's nice especially for matching
printed colors on decorated parts.

The number bricks are to keep track of which numbered bag of parts I am working
on. When I open a bag in a set and build it, I photograph the extras for that
bag with the number brick for reference. That way I can easily check my work
if anything turns up wonky with the list of extras.

The pike and axle with ball are for taking stuff apart. I find the tip of the
pike works well when the little crowbar isn't doing the job. I keep the ball
on the end of that axle to protect my fingers when I have to use it to push another
axle out.

Not easy to see on the reduced pic but I think you’re using the wrong ball:

Part No: 53585 Name: Technic Ball Joint with Through Axle Hole
*
53585 Technic Ball Joint with Through Axle Hole
Parts: Technic
instead of

Part No: 32474 Name: Technic Ball Joint
*
32474 Technic Ball Joint
Parts: Technic
32474 doesn’t risk sliding

Hard to tell but I think she has it combined with this part:

Part No: 55013 Name: Technic, Axle 8L with Stop
*
55013 Technic, Axle 8L with Stop
Parts: Technic, Axle {Dark Bluish Gray}

Oh, I see… but that doesn’t prevent the ball from sliding when you push and then
you hurt your fingies on the axle’s stop.

Yep, I have to hold it carefully to keep it from sliding, but otherwise, the
ball would pop right off when I went to pull the axle back out or at other times.
I just found this set-up kept together well, and I never confuse it for the parts
in whatever set I am working on because it stays built.

Jen

I don’t have that many but I have used all of these a lot
