In Selling, UTLF writes:
I've recently had a buyer place an order in my store & they've changed
their country about 15 times in the span of a few weeks, first it was Canada,
then UK, then Singapore, and a few others I've seen but can't recall;
I find it strange that Bricklink allows buyers to constantly change their country,
let alone their address, as there's no reason for it and seems extremely
suspicious

So far I haven't had any problems with the buyer in question, but at the
same time I can't help but be concerned when this guy seems to be going around
the world in less than 80 days

Wasn’t that the name of an old pc game? It sounds so familiar and I think it’s
on I played a lot

On top of this, I've seen someone else get suspended for the same behaviour
before (as they've posted on the forums about it) yet somehow this buyer
is fine - the only explanation for this would be that the buyer is using freight
forwarders, but the address I sent to was a normal office building and didn't
seem to have any sort of forwarding company tied to it

Has anyone else experienced something similar? If so, what are your thoughts
on buyers being allowed to change their addresses so often? As far as I'm
aware, sellers can't do it without their stores needing to be re-verified,
so why is it any different for buyers?

I personally feel like there should be a cooldown implemented to avoid any possible
issues

When I was younger we weren’t allowed to play to many games and we didn’t have
any consoles but this game was played so much!

You know you're old when...

'Around the World in 80 Days' makes you think of the classic book while
others are fondly recalling video games.

Do you mean the Michael Palin (of Monty Python fame) one? Great series, available
in the UK on BBC iPlayer. Worth a watch.

I only say the movie when looking online (unless that’s actually a series )

based on the book.

I’m not asking people to read the books!  Just the titles and author names would
be enough.  After all, it’s what most “educated” people do.

I mean we’ve got like 500 books in our house by the authors names are often either
the most simple name on the planet or unpronounceable

I read the titles and then search to see if there is a movie based on the book.
If there is no movie then I search for an audio book.

Before more efficient ways of absorbing stories (radio, tv, movies, etc ...)
children did read more. In fact many parents would be concerned if the child
spent too much time reading (similar to how parents might feel today if the child
spends too much time watching TV or even playing video games that require thinking
or hand-eye coordination).

I’m not sure I’d call them “more efficient.”

A (true) story that’s a bit old but still valid for my point:
A reporter asks a young kid what he thought of the first Tintin movie he just
saw: “’Twas good… but Captain Haddock didn’t have the same voice as in the books!”

In this case, I think there is simply confusion surrounding the origin of the
idea, given the number of derivative works:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Around_the_World_in_Eighty_Days_(disambiguation)

Even the book itself isn't entirely original; the author himself claims that
it was inspired by an advertisement he saw in a newspaper.

So, he wrote a 300 pages book on an ad he saw in a newspaper?

have you never had english class homework before (or do the just called it french

Sure and another thing we have is called the “Philosophie” test for the bac(calauréat)
(high school exam): you have 4 hours to discuss a statement or question like
“Is art always beautiful?”
And journalists love it because it makes “news” every year (“old chestnut”).

It seems a lot of things these days (reality shows, TikTok memes…) are the reverse:
they invented vacuum from an entire civilization.

So, he wrote a 300 pages book on an ad he saw in a newspaper?

have you never had english class homework before (or do the just called it french
class by you?) where the teachers make you write huge assignments over tiny things

Sure and another thing we have is called the “Philosophie” test for the bac(calauréat)
(high school exam): you have 4 hours to discuss a statement or question like
“Is art always beautiful?”

no
problems solved

And journalists love it because it makes “news” every year (“old chestnut”).

Nothing has never been invented from void.

It seems a lot of things these days (reality shows, TikTok memes…) are the reverse:
they invented vacuum from an entire civilization.

not gunna pretend to understand what that means

Yes, it's incredible the imagination this guy had.

Apparently, it's based on a novel of the same name

When I was younger we weren’t allowed to play to many games and we didn’t have
any consoles but this game was played so much!

It's an unbelievable Book of Jules Verne:

This guy travelled all countries, seas and earth and below and above - only in
his imagination.

I wonder if he buys to ship to other people, so the addresses are different people?
Like family or customers? Idk…

their country about 15 times in the span of a few weeks, first it was Canada,
then UK, then Singapore, and a few others I've seen but can't recall;

On top of this, I've seen someone else get suspended for the same behaviour
before (as they've posted on the forums about it) yet somehow this buyer
is fine - the only explanation for this would be that the buyer is using freight
forwarders, but the address I sent to was a normal office building and didn't
seem to have any sort of forwarding company tied to it

Has anyone else experienced something similar? If so, what are your thoughts
on buyers being allowed to change their addresses so often? As far as I'm
aware, sellers can't do it without their stores needing to be re-verified,
so why is it any different for buyers?

I personally feel like there should be a cooldown implemented to avoid any possible
issues

So many different possibilities: drop shipping, someone buying gifts for people,
money laundering… Or maybe they just really like to travel?

If you're concerned, report them: https://www.bricklink.com/problemMember.asp

I would cancel the order. I think that some buyers think that they're being
clever, and they don't realize that when they have an open order and change
their address, BL automatically emails the seller with that address change info.

Maybe a dropshipper.
Make sure you include a card or whatever info (like a print of bricklink order)
inside the package so that the buyer know how to directly order from you next
time!

I had an experience like this recently. A buyer was having trouble ordering from
me because his address was in Germany and I only ship within the US. When I explained
that to him, he told me that oops, he's really from Oregon and he'll
get that fixed. I decided not to sell to him because it seemed shady.

Why not just be honest and say you're drop-shipping or using a freight forwarder?
I know some sellers would rather not take orders from buyers who do that but
I've never had an issue.

If he is a drop shipper, like many have already guessed at (I think so to), then
that would probably mean he will not try to scam any of the stores he is buying
from because he will want to keep his feedback clean so that he can continue
buying here and not burn any bridges along the way. His business only continues
if he keeps the sellers he buys from happy. We have never had any problems with
drop shippers.

I agree.
When a buyer buys from my store and pays my price, good for him he can re-sell
it to another buyer (maybe at a higher price).

The only potential problem, would be a PayPal claim, when the PayPal address
and the shipping address aren't the same. But I've hadn't had one
of those claims in a couple of years (luckily).
