| Just curious why Bricklink has not updated their platform and if they will in
the future. This is a 20 year old platform. Would be great to see it modernized
to standard of design. Brickstore is great to use because much easier, but
with the money we pay Bricklink, would be great if we didn't have to use
a 3rd part app.

I am sure that would take a while to do what you are asking. And all sorts of
problems/errors will occur. Site might even be down for a few weeks.

Ah, if it were just so simple.
Over the years, attempts to rebuild it from within have caused major problems.
I believe multiple teams have tried this. An attempt to build a stand-along site
was {{cough, cough XP}} rough. The site is just incredibly complex.
They are rebuilding for a modern infrastructure now, but it's going to take
years to do it without breaking everything in the process.
The money you pay BrickLink is far lower than any other marketplace. Aside from
not needing to use Brickstore, what are you hoping for specifically from a 'modernized'
site? I may be biased here because there is nothing about the look of modern
web design that I would actually want here. Big huge buttons, endless white space,
simplified everything. UGH.
Thanks,
Jen

This is so true! It's impossible to make a website according to 2023 standards
that has all information a buyer would need on one screen like we have (and enjoy)
now.
A new version optimized for mobile on all platforms and browsers would simply
leave out everything we now have and replace it by drop-down or click-trough
buttons and as a user you would get lost in a minute.
This may never happen!

Please do not do that until you hear about my funeral. I do not like change.Jennifer
is totally correct about the very inexpensive fee structure. It could double
and still be a lot less than ebay. I would suggest increasing the fees and have
a very functioning site. It would be an increase with dividends for the sellers
because of functionality that saves time to list items and for buyers to more
easily find items they want.

I'd prefer it if they charged more for advanced seller services and keep
a basic service at the same price.

No doubt this is true.
For me, there is one big issue: browsing the site on my mobile phone. I'm
not talking about doing transactions, buying, processing orders, doing refunds,
and so on. Just simply browsing the forum, maybe replying to a thread, having
a look at my orders. Basically, things you would typically do while on the go
without access to a full size screen.
I work in a D2C ecommerce IT landscape, so I know the challenges. Still, I also
know the technical possibilities that are out there in 2023. There are ways (tools
and methodologies) to replace legacy systems. Lookup "strangler pattern"
if you're interested in that domain.
In any case, it would be nice if the BrickLink Product team would share the roadmap
(even with the technical-only stories), so we get some more insight in what's
coming. That would be nice.

They have nade many incremental updates over the years, haven't they?
I wouldn't want the site to appear more user friendly (especially for new
users) at the expense of functionality.

True. I really do miss a mobile friendly display though. Not for transactional
stuff (I can live this is reserved for full size screens), but simply looking
at my orders, looking at the catalog, etcetera.
As I mentioned/suggested: a second mobile-friendly site, fed with the same database
and limited to content display features, would be a plus for me.

As other said, major overhaul would be challenging. Best they can do is minor
changes here and there. Some years back (around 11?) they had to change security
after someone hacked an admin account and merged a bunch of Bricklink accounts
into one banned account. Cookies had to be radically changed to prevent repeat
of that fiasco.
