Hello,

Since last Sunday January 29th (I believe that was the date), a yellow square
with a "1" appeared above "My BL" indicating I have a new message
and when I hover over "My BL" it shows "Messages (1)".

However, I read and deleted all of my Outbox messages and all of my Inbox messages
(including the subcategory messages) after seeing the "1", but it will
not go away. I also tried logging out of Bricklink and then logged back in,
but it did not fix the issue.

I also cleared my browsing history and cleared cached images and files before
logging out and logging back into Bricklink. I do not know if clearing cookies
and other site data will help (and I would rather not clear cookies or other
site data, if possible).

Is this a previously known issue? Will the "1" eventually disappear
without me doing anything else?

reminds me of ig where even buying a new phone didn't get rid of the false
new message notification

Not only phantom message in the in/out box, there are phantom reply in this forum

UPDATE:
Today I had 2 actual messages in my Inbox and the number 2 was showing by my
"My BL" icon. I deleted both messages at the same time and I no longer
have a number showing by "My BL". So somehow this issue has been resolved.
Not sure why this issue became resolved today (nearly 6 months to the date).
Perhaps it is a 6-month glitch.

6-months is the timeline for order to be purged so it may be related to that
