So a few years back I collected the parts to build the Statue of Liberty Pedestal
MOC. It was on display for some time in a case (I built myself) but was never
in direct sunlight. I broke down the pedestal/statue and it has been in storage
for about a year or so. I decided this month to rebuild the statue and the pedestal.
When I pulled the pedestal out of storage, various parts were yellowing; some
quite badly. There's no reason or pattern to the yellowing parts, they are
just in various locations on the build.

I know the yellowing issue has been discussed here before.
Short of individually sorting through thousands of pieces on this MOC; what other
options are available? Can the yellowing be reversed on LBG parts?

Thanks for reading!

It's only reversible on white, AFAIK. Sometimes consistently yellowed LBG
parts turn perfectly into old light gray, which can still be useful.

Yellowing can never been fully undone. It will always come back. 1 thing that
can cause yellowing is direct sunlight but also temperature fluctuations if I’m
not mistaken

Some parts from certain eras in lbg are also more prone to color change. Probably
based on where they were manufactured. I have an older architecture set for example
and all the 1x3 plates are now a different (uniform) shade. It literally can’t
possibly be temperature or sunlight.

Just a couple pictures to show the extent of discoloration

It’s just unfortunate because it is a nice build

I suppose eventually they will all discolor over time

hi,
it is possible to polish the yellowing off by using a slightly damp rubber sponge
and gently rubbing the brick for a while...
the only downside is that the gloss also decreases and becomes a bit matte

So I was going through my Lego storage and started pulling out some old rare
sets as well as some special sets such as

Set No: celeb2010 Name: CubeDude - Bounty Hunter Edition - Star Wars Fan Celebration V Exclusive
*
celeb2010-1 (Inv) CubeDude - Bounty Hunter Edition - Star Wars Fan Celebration V Exclusive
496 Parts, 2010
Sets: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6
. This one in particular
I know was essentially new condition and was only on display. It was in storage
(about a year?) in a plastic baggie in a plastic container in the dark. The
Dengar character looks like he got a bad suntan as the mostly white parts for
the head are now yellowed.

I'm wondering if the plastic in the bags are reacting to the bricks? I'm
almost afraid to start looking through the rest of my collection - almost all
of which are in storage due to space constraints.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

I'm sure the plastic and fluctuation of temps are the main causes for the
sealed sets. My nephew had a millennium falcon 4504 out in their detached garage
fully sealed, and we opened it to find a lot of the greys faded or changed tones
from the hot-cold spikes through the years.
