Some time ago a change was implemented where nearly all Bionicle weapons that
used to be categorized as 'Flat Silver' were labeled as 'Pearl Light
Gray'. While I agree that previous distinction was wrong, I don't think
the colors are similar enough to be grouped together (see the attached photo
for an example with 'Pearl Light Gray' on the right). There are differences
but we just do not have an appropriate color to describe them yet. Hence I suggest
the following:

For the Kanohi Masks:
'Bionicle Silver' becomes 'Mata Silver' (because this color is
exclusive to Mata masks)
'Bionicle Gold' becomes 'Mata Gold' (again because this color
is exclusive to Mata masks)

'Flat Silver' becomes 'Bionicle Silver'
'Pearl Light Gray' becomes either 'Pearl Light Gray' or 'Bionicle
Pearl Light Gray'

I think this will clear up a lot of confusion and a mismatchs in color in a single
set (again, see the attached photo).

Kind regards,

Benjamin

From what I remember they have plans in the future to further separate flat silver
into 2 different colours but not for awhile yet

Not Flat Silver. Flat Silver is correct.

Pearl Light Gray contains two different colors that will probably be separated
much later on.

Flat Silver is still used today. Bionicle is not a current theme.

It might help to know that Pearl Light Gray parts will vary in shade depending
on the plastic the part is made of. Unfortunately, this problem gets worse due
to the lack of another separate color for a shade of Silver that was only used
from 2005 to 2006. This particular shade is known to be lighter than your average
Pearl Light Gray part. Bricklink does not recognize it yet. Some of the parts
on the right in your photo are almost certainly this rare 2005 color. Your 44807
in Brown is also a color that is not yet recognized here, so there’s still some
work to be done in the realm of mid-2000s Bionicle.

Many pearly colors have this problem, especially older ones. No pearly color
that was introduced before 2005 is still used today, partly due to how inconsistent
they were.

Ah I see. Well I hope they change it soon because the way it is done right now
is very confusing.

The catalog team has added a ton of colors over the last year or so. At this
point. there are only a handful of them that they do not recognize, with eight
of them coming from the Bionicle theme, and seven of those being pearly colors.
Part of the reason this 2005 silver was never added is because nobody really
knew that it was a completely different color from the existing Pearl Light Gray,
as LEGO didn’t make internal color information too public back then. There is
a plan to introduce this rare shade sometime in the future, but I’ve been told
that it isn’t at the top of the list of priorities.

It comes in both, so it's hard to tell. This part looks slightly lighter
than others, so I'm going with 296 here.

How can you tell that it was released in both colors if its only from 2006?

Cool Silver was introduced alongside Warm Gold in the summer of 2005. The former
was only available up until the summer of the following year. Sets with this
part were first available starting August 1st, 2006, so the Cool Silver pieces
did not have a very long runtime, but they were still available in a few early
copies.

Thanks for making a change. But there are 4 PLG colors and 2 Flat Silvers afaik:
2002-05 flat silver,
hero factory flat silver,
very PLG in 2002-03 (mixing mistakes I think), and 09,
regular PLG from 2006 and 08
Yellowish PLG from 2007

Also 1 of the 2006 VoyaToran has flat silver weapons instead of PLG, I think
it was Garan (black). And Nuparu in 2006 has Flat Silver claws.
3 tints of Gold Mata Mask, 3 tints of Pearl Dark Gray Mata Mask, and the Brown
Komau is missing. Also also there is yellow / mango, purple / dark purple, and
white / dark white for Krana masks from 2002. And then there's old hard plastic
/ modern soft rubber tooth pieces, and dirt trans-orange / clean trans-orange
Bohrok eyes. 2 different Kaukau Mata molds, and there's 2 tints of medium
trans-blue for that mask. I'm sorry for all the work that's still waiting
for the team, but amazing job thusfar.

There is no 2002-05 Flat Silver.
Hero Factory Flat Silver is the modern color still in use today.
131 Silver could be as dark as 315 Silver Metallic or as light as 296 Cool Silver,
depending on the plastic used to make the part.

There were a number of new Bionicle colors added just last year, and those will
not be changing.

The colors Flat Silver and Pearl Light Gray have a long sordid history on BrickLink
that is in the process of being fully resolved. You can read about it here:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1096

There is a plan to complete the project sometime this year, but the exact timing
is not known.

Because the newly added colors will not be renamed or repurposed and the Flat
Silver / Pearl Light Gray conundrum is being actively worked, this request cannot
be completed.

Cheers,
Randy

P.S. I hope to have the rest of the pearl Bionicle colors added sometime this
year, also. These will include a "Pearl Red", "Pearl Green",
"Pearl Brown", and "Pearl Blue". Stay tuned!
