Hi!

I recently got a shipment through Bricklink that contained a bag of 50 wide treads
(part 42479) that do have the LEGO logo on them, but have no part number and
are definitely fake. I have the same part from a kit I bought at Legoland, and
they look totally different (see picture - real on left). The shipment also contained
17 20-tooth-double-bevel gears (mixed bag of 32269 and 18575) where about half
do not have the LEGO logo on them, so I'm thinking they are fake. The other
18 items in the shipment do have the LEGO logo and part number, so I'm thinking
they are real (though I'd really like to know if there is a definitive place
to research this). What should I do now? Should I contact the vendor about it?
Report it to someone on Bricklink? Alert the community about these parts? Post
about it and identify the vendor for everyone to see? This is only my second
post on Bricklink, so any guidance is much appreciated!

Thanks!

As per the other thread, these look genuine.

Got it! Thanks for replying, and I apologize for my brazen ignorance. Just getting

Those are definitely all Lego. The gears you have are probably also Lego. Many
older pieces did not include the lego logo, some gears being some of them.

Thank you for your response, and the information! Any idea where I can go to
learn more so I don't embarrass myself again?

Thanks,

They are real. You do not need to take any action at present

Keep in mind that this part has been produced for over 15 years now. Lego currently
has molding factories in four or five locations across the world. If a mold needs
replaced, or needs to be produced in multiple locations, there WILL be differences
in the numbering, LEGO placement, and even sometimes texture/shape of the part
itself. This is very normal.

Hi!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and informative response. I am new to this,
and obviously need to learn some basics. Is there a place I could go for this?

Thanks again,

Yes but I see you already found this place! 😀
I think this place called Bricklink is amongst the websites with the best knowledge
regarding Lego.

I guess we need a new term for the endless chain of no-logo-equals-fake-consumers.

Where on the internet does it say no LEGO logo equals fake? WHERE?? Oh, never
mind. It's everywhere. I give up!!

It is getting a bit tedious but I suppose it’s inevitable.

The worst are those that still insist they know better than those who’ve vastly
more experience.

Another example of human nature I suppose.

I just had a long discussion with a buyer on eBay who said that the Batman figure
I sold them was fake. When asked why they told me that the cape didn’t fit over
his hands. When explained to them how to put a cape on they argued with me till
the end. Some people are unwilling to learn or take advise.

I'm so sorry. I am very new at this, I did a few hours research on the internet,
and I came to an incorrect conclusion. I will work hard to become more educated!

Nothing, because they're all legitimate parts - I do recommend brushing up
on your Lego part knowledge, though

So sorry! I am very new at this. Where can I go to learn about these things?

Thanks!

The best thing you did is making this forumpost.
Not so good is that you should be better educated in knowing your Lego.
I never saw a LEGO marked part that is fake. Marked LEGO means it is Lego.
There are a lot of parts that are only marked wit a C, a 1 or 2 or not even
marked at all like early lightsaber blades/bars, Super Battle Droid parts etc.
But to be honest, I cannot help you with the unmarked parts in this case. The
ones I had were marked but that doesn’t mean they are all marked.
Check this forum for ‘fake, real, unmarked’ etc.

ones I had were marked but that doesn’t mean they are all marked.
Check this forum for ‘fake, real, unmarked’ etc.

Thank you so much for your informative response! I really appreciate your taking
the time. I will check this forum for ‘fake, real, unmarked’ and educate myself,
and will not make any more naive and overconfident posts.

I'm extremely impressed by the speed and quality of the responses I've
gotten! As I mentioned, I am totally new to this. What a great community! I'm
part of a few other discussion boards, and I often have to wait many days for
a response. Please excuse me as I get used to how things are here.

Thanks,
B

I ignored that thread. Guess I was the only one here who thought it was trolling.

I thought it was a pretty good chance he was trolling, but possibly a high school
kid who wanted to quit his job as a pizza delivery driver or something... if
that was the case, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to get the experience of
really trying to run a your own business.

true true. if he is able to work from home and not worry about monthly expenses
and is able to get some money to use to buy stock it would be a great option
to start
