| I want to quit my old job so I can work on Bricklink full time. I opened my store
4 months ago. I’ve made 25 sales. I’ve sold 3073 items in 642 lots. I’ve made
$245.29. I’m sure it’s OK for me to quit now. I have a lot of motivation to be
a great seller on Bricklink. I want my family to support my decision on quitting
my old job.

| if you want to make bricklink a full time job you'll need a lot more inventory.
very few people are able to make living off of bricklink and looking at the numbers
you put you arent anywhere near being able to make it a full time job yet. once
you get closer to 500,00-1,000,000 bricks you should be able to make it more
so full time but currently your are at 20,000

I know I need a lot more inventory. I’m always adding more everyday when I’m
not busy with other things. If I didn’t have my job to distract me I would be
getting a lot more inventory added to my store.

inventory costs lots of money even if you have a good amount to start with. despite
what people say 9/10 times its better to keep your job while your trying to get
a side hustle up and running instead of just leaving and hoping for the best

See above?
Don't be fooled by the numbers you've imagined.
If you wish to quit, it's something to consider seriously - but BrickLink
may not be your income (at least for a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time).

Are you nuts?
You have made less money in four months than my teenager made mowing yards in
a week this summer.
If you quit your job will your family still have health insurance?
Keep your job, build your inventory, after a while of working on this hobby then
decide if you want to go full time. You may find that this isn’t what you want
to do and then have a house full of LEGO you need to sell.

| $245 in profit or in revenue?
Either way, you have not provided enough information. Are you a high school student
wanting to convince your family this is better than washing dishes? Maybe. Are
you trying to support your own family? Then of course not.

You want your family to support you? Why not be the one to support your family!
Being a full-time BrickLink seller requires a large investment of capital and
labor. It can certainly be done, but it is almost certainly easier to work for
a waged salary and run a BrickLink store in your spare time than it is to rely
on BrickLink as your sole source of income. Quitting your job is risky unless
you have a lot of savings to fall back on in case things don't work out here.

NO EFFING WAY BRO! and I say that with love
Yes, wouldn't it be wonderful if this could be a full time job for all..
but it's not. You can't make people buy things, so until you see great
numbers for quite some time... WORK!!
PS... Have you maybe taken that drive and ambition and looked into a Bricks and
Minifigs Franchise store (or something similar) to invest and open. A physical
store might be what you need!

I've been dreaming of quitting my full time job since I started selling
on BL over 10 years ago. I am still working to add inventory but silly thing
as soon as you add more, it sells and you are back down to the same qty again.
Dont forget as well - it costs you a LOT of time to sort and list LEGO here and
when you sell $245 worth, what amount of that is profit outside what you paid
for the bricks? Many of us do it as a hobby and to help folks find the bricks
they need to work on completing old sets or MOC's.
Dont quit your day job until you can have a steady 6+ month of profit (sales
- cost of good sold) here that is equal or more to the pay you are making at
work today. Otherwise your family may not be too happy...

I'm definitely not saying that you should. But from personal experience,
I did and I love it. I'd highly recommend to everyone to make it happen for
yourself. I have a couple other swords in the fire as well but those were also
made possible because of Bricklink.
On the other hand, you are making 6 sales a month.

If you want to go full time, I'd suggest starting out by finding a job that'll
help support your ambitions. Working in a retail location that sells Lego in
which you get an employee discount and are also the first to see deals is ideal.
Working at the post office is also a good gig since shipping is a fortune now.
Very few people make a living selling used pieces. Generally the only way to
make it as a big time seller is buying multiple of a set with a good part out
value and having BL automatically part it out into your shop for you. The job
is just breaking down and storing bulk sets. Right now you're getting a lot
of low value orders which tends to happen to shops with small inventories and
a lack of bulk parts. Time, space and attracting high quantity orders is the
key. That's usually achieved through mass, automatic inventory uploads, i.e.
buying 10 AT-TE's on clearance and parting them all out at once.
Initial investment is high since you need a ton of storage drawers, a lot of
room, pre-purchased sets, etc. But the key is to have a lot of one thing.
Base cost of living in the US is around ~30k a year. So in BL sales alone, you'll
likely be having to sell around 60-70k a year in gross sales. Which means around
180k parts in a 4 month period, not 3k.

I'd check that you are allowed to sell any products bought using an employee
discount. Often you are not, because there is an incentive to tell customers
not to buy something in store but instead meet you in the carpark for a discount.

Depends on the employee discount agreement. If you're parting out sets, you're
modifying them from their original form and offering a service. That said, it
can definitely be a grey area.

Á few questions:
-how old are you?
-do you need to support anyone on those sales?
-do you need to invest that $245 into buying new LEGO?
-did you take into account packing materials?
-etc etc
Good luck,
Maxx
P.s. maybe slowly scale down your old job?

Did you factor in taxes that you owe on your profit?
Did you factor in other expenses into your cost of doing business?
Have you created a business plan?
Did you read and follow the actions on https://www.usa.gov/start-business ?
Do you know where you are going to source your inventory? (I know the answer
to this one is no due to your latest thread.)
What is your source of capital?
Is your family your parents or spouse and kids? I read it as parents, as a spouse
should smack you upside the head for wanting to leave your job for $245.29, you
may want to listen to them since they have more experience in life and generally
are looking out for what may be best for you.
Finally, you asked people that you may be competing with, they will have a bias,
though some try not to here. These types of decisions are best made by consulting
unbiased professionals (accountants, lawyers, SBA, etc.) and then making your
own decision.
I think you could quit your job, but feel like you still have a lot work to do
and may end up on the 50% - 90% (depends on who you ask) side of the business
failure stats.
If you really want to be an entrepreneur, it is going to take a lot of hard,
and at times, not fun work.
