I have a large collection of parts from both series, and want to separate them.
Is there a way to know for sure which part belongs to which theme or one needs
to check the number for each specific part? Between the two themes, there are
over 800 unique parts.

I start with the color guide: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogColors.asp
That helps divide what you're looking for. It's a process of elimination
for me.

Thank you but ... *darn*. Most men can't differentiate among those many colors.
Life was easier when all 2x4 bricks were: Yellow, Green, Red, Blue, White, Black
... 6 colors. That was easy.

Not my firsthand experience, but in the early days, Black was the cool new color.

I assume there are exclusive colors and masks, but Bionicle's 2nd generation
"G2" uses Hero Factory's "CCBS" (Character and Creature Building System).
And specific years of release overlap more with Throwbots and Ben 10, and Technic
in general.

To find online resources by dedicated fans, look up "CCBS Bionicle very
mad why better differences disappointment all caps" or use reverse image search
on the image attached.

The task of separating parts into series is quite difficult in itself. I would
advise you to separate them first, following some logic, for example, by color,
shape, etc. Further, it will be much easier to figure out which details belong
to which series of releases. By the way, I'm following a guy who has several
guides on this topic as well. It is called "tdbricks" https://tdbricks.com/.Hope
I could help you.
