Random Thought of the Day:

Fans of LEGO are amazing and many of them spend huge sums of money on a hobby
they love and enjoy often for many years. BrickLink buyers are amazing, too,
for how much money they [willingly] spend on Shipping their orders.

For example, the highest feedback buyer on BL has 17,487 FB rating over 11 years.
If it is estimated that they spent TWO Dollars per order for shipping, they
have paid $ 35,000 to various postal and shipping companies. This is a low estimate
(but shipping did cost a lot less 11 years ago).

Most postal agencies around the world are in financial difficulties, some in
a perpetual state of crisis. While BrickLink shipments are a tiny percentage
of overall mail and package volume, it is not an insignificant amount. One percent
of a billion dollars is still a lot of revenue.

I think that most of the postal and shipping companies of the world should step
up and send thank you notes or Christmas cards to BrickLink for all of the good
business they have gained because of BrickLink. In general, without the huge
annual increases in package delivery demand from online sales, many postal and
shipping companies could not survive and stay in business these days.

And Thank You to BrickLink buyers and sellers for helping to keep these postal
and shipping operations in business.

Indeed, it is difficult to imagine what BrickLink would be like without USPS,
UPS, FedEx, DHL, Canada Post, Royal Mail, La Poste, Deutsche Post, PostNL, Pitney
Bowes, Endicia, Stamps.com, Pirate Ship, PayPal, Stripe, IBAN, SWIFT, CHIPS,
and the countless other shipping services, logistics networks, and payment processors
that make buying and selling on BrickLink possible.

That being said, BrickLink orders are but a tiny percentage of these companies'
overall revenue. And it's not really BrickLink that is generating revenue
for these companies, it is us, the buyers and sellers of BrickLink.

I doubt BL parcels are anywhere near 1% of these companies' business. And
it works both ways. Without postage companies, bricklink trade would be very
low and so maybe bricklink owes them thanks (on our behalf). They keep BL and
us going. Very few companies operate in isolation these days.

I send my Thank You's every time I [am forced] to buy 4 ounces worth of postage
to send a 2 ounce parcel. Which, in today's lean economic times and smaller
BL orders, seems to be about 80 percent of the packages I ship out.

Also, I even made a nice Thank You poster and sent it a few weeks ago to the
two postal distribution centers that handle all of my parcels.
