| Life threw me a curve ball back in February and I had to unexpectedly shut the
store. We're talking bricks sitting on the sorting table for several months.
I reopened it today and when I went to adjust the prices for the last 6 months
I noticed a drop of nearly 33% of the total value of my inventory. Have all
the pandemic fanatics finally left the building?

| Possibly, this past summer has been the slowest sales period in awhile so people
probably have been putting higher sale % to try to get more sales

LEGO are screwed if they have, since they are pumping out so many large expensive
18+ sets now. And that is likely the cause, there is so much variety on offer
at RRP plus currently 10% VIP and GWPs, why would someone overpay on the secondary
market unless it is a retired item they really want.

I think it's also the race to the bottom where too many sellers list their
parts 'just below average' to try and generate sales even when they are
basically selling at a loss. The only prices going up now that I observe are
bricks, tiles and minifig stuff.

Good point on that. I think previously I was last six months + 20%, I dropped
it to +14% but may put it back.

All of above and one other thing - EUR (and almost all other currencies) is weak.
Most EU stores using EUR, that sales price 4-6 months ago is more than 10% lower
now.

1€ is still 1€, but 1€ is $1.1 before only $0.97 now. When you calculated average
price using USD, there is a big difference 😳.

“Half-” because when you buy and sell (mostly) in € and in EU or even in your

It does matter for the global price guide. If a single 1 euro item sold six months
ago and another sold now then the average price in USD has gone down.

That’s what bahpstore said, and/therefore I was just trying to explain the not-joking
other half of Sylvain’s comment.
Besides, Yellow.Brick said it’s the opposite that happened: the prices in € are
lower now.
Prices in a weakening currency go up, not down (if the price variation is only
due to the exchange rate).
Say the $ price didn’t change / the $ is stable. Something that cost €10 6 months
ago was €10*1.1 = $11, it should cost $11/0.97 = €11.34 now. So if the item’s
at €9 (old price in € minus 10%) now, like Yellow.Brick said, that’s 20% lower
in $ (9*0.97/11 = 79.4%).

Let's use a simplest example:
One part sold twice, one for €1.00 another for $1.12 when the exchange rate is
€1.00 = $1.12. At that moment US buyer would see the average price was $1.12,
EU buyers would see the average price was €1.00.
Fast forward to €1.00 = $0.97, the same US buyer will find the average price
is $1.045 (1*0.97 + 1.12)/2 and the EU buyer will see the average price is €1.077
(1.12/0.97 + 1)/2
The strong dollar drag down average price for US sellers, but pop up average
price for EU sellers.

Yes, it's why I always put 25€ of gas in my car, a smart way not to have
any change in the gas price!
BTW in fact we use LPG (GPL in France), which means a tank full and around 450
km for about 22€

I think it was 11.9 gallons = 45 liters.
I'm dating myself but gasoline was about $0.85 per gallon then, and I never
let the tank get under 1/4 full.

You in the US always had cheap oil.
As far as I can remember, I haven’t known the price of gasoline to be below 4
francs/litre (= €0.6/L), so about $3/usgallon at the time.
E10 was around €1.6/L, so €6/usgallon a bit before the war. It’s now around
or above €2/L.
(And I quickly checked to see if I was wrong: I’m not. Or not really: I was
too young to count before that )
(Also, I checked but it seems there’s been a ‘Corolla’ model from 1966, so that
didn’t help know when you had yours )

In 2009 the avg US price for a gallon of gas was $2.35 - fill-up would have been
more like $20 then. Of course that was also the year we got a minivan to transport
our growing family so a fill-up could be $30-$40.

Okay. It doesn’t change much with 1998’s prices: still a factor of 3 or 4.
