Hello. I have about 6 pounds of "junk" Lego parts with chew marks, stains, and
broken areas from over the years. I have tried selling them in my store and eBay.

What does everyone do with their "junk" parts?

I’ll say it since most don’t agree but if it’s a low value part (excluding minifigure
parts and some accessories) I put them in the trash can and throw them out. I’ve
done this for probably close to 50-100 pounds of LEGO and knockoff LEGO in the
past year or so

As a seller this is what I do as well; as a buyer I appreciate that your junk
parts aren’t going back out to be sold. It makes me feel so sad when I think
I have new treasures - from the thrift shop, Kijiji, wherever - and when I get
home it’s bitten or damaged. I expect other people feel like that too, so
excited to enjoy the LEGO and then disappointed. I don’t want to build with parts
that someone/thing tried to eat.

I tried to give my junk parts away once - clearly labelled as such, thinking
someone could use them for an art project maybe - and the person who took them
for free promptly listed them on the same site for purchase as good condition
parts.

My not-the-best minifigure parts, low value decorated parts with crooked stickers,
not ideal windshields etc. I send to LEGO Replay, hoping kids can make use of
them. I don’t send any broken or bitten pieces.

Agreed I've made some purchases and received lots of damaged parts and have
been very disappointed

Yikes, that's very unfortunate. Ive offered it to extended family in the
past but after once or twice I decided its best to just remove it from circulation
permanently

Im sure they will be appreciative!

I gave all of mine to someone creating a huge LOTR moc and they were going to
use what they could as filler for the mountain / castle.

Lately though, anything that hasn't been a figure part or valuable part (including
good lego, rough lego, and offbrands) just gets re-bulked and sold locally as
figureless bulk.

"Jeff" pays $5/lbs for pure near mint lego without figs.
"Susan" pays $5/lbs for bulk everything without figs.

I started selling to the "Susans" and take the time trade off from not sorting
and listing everything and put that to acquiring and listing more figs / fig
parts.

I sell the bricks and tiles and minifigs in bulk lots. I pull out anything else
broken or cracked. The rest get clearly marked "Play-worn LEGO and knock-offs"
and donated to a local thrift shop.

Generic brick and plate can usually work as filler and internal structure. Damaged
and broken parts I get are kept used when I set up the brick scrapyard in a layout.

I don't sell Lego, but I do collect a lot for building my Lego City and to
just collect... When I come across really yellowed or discolored bricks I put
them in a separate bin (not garbage bin) to be used for the internals of MILS
plates or in mountains or hills, same with parts that are dinged or chewed on
if they still attach to other pieces. If they are cracked or broken I just toss
them into the actual garbage bin, I used to put them in a zip-loc baggie hoping
I'd do something with them someday but they just collected dust so I toss
them now. When I get a gallon size zip-loc full of off brand (not Mega, I keep
that) I give it away to a thrift store.

Those can be found "New, Mint" on eBay.

I swear: I bought years ago Technic Bricks New Mint, some were just chewed by
a huge dog. Or a dino - but nothing else could have made those damages.

Some time ago my mother dropped off some Lego that had belonged to my late brother,
some of it was in very good condition but the rest looked like it had been thrown
out of a 3rd-story window (while still built) or run over by a car.

If they are 2x4 bricks, I collect them
I still have a lot of gaps to fill in my attempts to collect every 2x4 brick
ever made... failing that, I'll settle for bricks made in as many molds as
possible.

It depends how junk they are. I find there are still things you can do with basic
bricks even if they are not good enough for a build.

Broken plates and bricks are useful if you paint LEGO pieces. I have a stand
made from two layers of old 2xX plates with 1x1 round bricks on. It is ideal
for putting heads or helmets in a row when airbrushing them.

I've also got some plant pots made out of junk 2xX bricks glued together.

If really junk, build a tower and put it in 1cm of acetone and watch it slowly
die.

If they are a more expensive or higher demand part, I list them on bricklink
for 50% the average price. This is usually minifigure parts or bricks, as lots
of people use damaged bricks for fillers.

The rest, I usually sell extremely cheap, or give away, to familes/children.

I will never sell those parts in my shop. That said they may come at hand when
using as filler bricks as others have mentioned.

However, then I expect those parts are in the range of 1 to 5 cents at most.
For my own mocs I regularly buy used parts but none that fit with the description
chewed, stained or broken.

I would feel myself dirty using these types of parts. Call me OCD, no problem
