I am getting married in about a year and my fiance and I were thinking of fun
and unique gifts that reflect our interests and that our guests would enjoy (and
wouldn't weigh much since everyone will be flying to and from). We randomly
decided upon a Create Your Own MiniFig Bar setup. We are thinking of having a
container for each of the following: heads, torsos, legs, hair/hats, and misc.
Since I have only ever purchased individual pieces once (and that was to create
our own minifigs) I was curious what some suggestions would be to assist us in
procuring enough parts to make approximately 150 figures without breaking the
bank or going insane trying to order 10 from here and 15 from another place,
etc. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you all in advance.

Well, it’s not a website….

$10 (for 3) x ( 150 / 3 ) = $500

It is a wedding. Isn't the usual rule that as soon as the W word is used,
any reasonable prices are doubled. So $500 for 150 wedding favours is probably
quite good.

First, congrats on your engagement!

Your best bet would probably be to look for a store with a large number (and
variety) of Town minifigures - these are often inexpensive as minifigures go
- and then take them apart.

Below sorts USA based sellers by number of city figure lots.
I would start by checking out their pricing and selection.

Excellent link - with the caveat that there are a few stores at the top of that
list that are not cheap.

although true and I do agree asking $50 for a $6 figure might be a bit overkill

Try going to Build A Minifigure in your local Lego store.

Or try looking for a shop with lots of town/city minifigures, they can have a
huge variety of minifigures.

This is a great idea and I have heard of a few people doing this. I have a bunch
of used parts that I need to get into my store. I usually hang on to parts so
that I complete figures. Also, sales of individual body parts don't sell
that well. The way BL is set up you either know which part you are looking for,
or you browse a store you are visiting.

The best tool would be this one:
https://www.bricklink.com/calendar.asp?utm_content=subnav

This looks at uploads by date. You can narrow it down by saying show me all
the heads that were uploaded yesterday. You can then sort them by price, then
look at a few stores, hoping for more cheap parts.

It would be a lot of clicking but might yield some results.
