FB of 1 Buyer ordered, marked as Paid, but had not yet paid.

1. Informed them of this, sent invoice.

2. Buyer came through with payment. I changed Pymt Status from "Received" back
to "None".

3. Filled in the Postage box, then changed Pymt Status back to "Received".

In none of those steps was I able see "Shipped" as a choice under Order Status.
If I cannot mark an order as Shipped, then I cannot send a Drive Thru notice.

I'm betting that there's nothing I can do, and the system owns everyone,
even the people who are supposedly in charge of the system, and I need not have
bothered asking.

But, you know, just for the record.

I don't understand: If the buyer paid, then why did you change the payment
status to none?

Yeah, not sure how to proceed in this situation. Maybe try contacting the help
desk.

Let's play it out. So when I first got notification of the order, I went
to Orders Received and noticed that the row for that order had already been grayed
out (paid), the Pymt Status set to "Received". And yet I had not gotten an email
informing me of payment, and doubly-checked with my PP account to be sure. So...in
summary, the buyer had in fact not yet paid, but had marked the
order as such. With me?

After I had filled the order and weighed it for international postage, the above
stunt meant that I couldn't fill in the Postage box for that order, much
less send them an Invoice which they had requested ("Request for Invoice"). ¿Comprende?

Thus, if we take steps 2 and 3 of the tragedy into account, I felt I had nothing
to lose by changing the Pymt Status from "Received" -- which it had erroneously
been from the beginning -- back to "None", then back again just to see if
I could 'reset' the order and maybe thunk the system into letting me
have "Shipped" as an option. It didn't work, and I ended up doing the work
that the Orders system should have done, had it worked properly, entirely through
e-mail.

That's okay. I'm sure by that time, they'd already had their laugh
for the afternoon from some other lost soul who took the word 'Help'
in "Help Desk" seriously. If I had wasted the six or seven requisite minutes
it would have taken to spell out everything to the BLHD, at best I would have
received the magic eight ball response of "Sorry, can't help you"; at worst
I would have received no reply at all, ever.

Bottom line...Because a FB 1 buyer had the ability to change the Pymt Status
to "Received" when in fact it hadn't, this prevented me from sending them
a proper Invoice which included the postage charge, and it prevented me
from marking the order as "Shipped" afterwards, which in turn prevented me from
sending them a Drive Thru notification. In the spirit of "customer service" (you'll
need to consult your glossary, BLHD), I accomplished all these things using raw
e-mail.

And, to be perfectly clear, and thus deny any potshot potential to the zombified
lurkers out there whose lives revolve around such things, once the FB 1 buyer
marked the Pymt Status to "Received", this also changed the Order Status to "Paid",
which I was unable to correct at any point during the filling of the order,
including marking the order as "Shipped".

Look...I realize that my sarcasm, borne only partially of my frustration with
the way this circus is run, at least from my point of view, may be detrimental
to my cause, but sometimes there just isn't another outlet. The other source
of the sarcastic edge can be squarely traced back to the unfortunate tendency
of the elders of this forum -- who for all their finger-shaking and moral
posturing, should know better -- to belittle those who come forward with
their own frustrations into thinking that the whole mess is all their fault,
and they need not have bothered.

The system is what it is. I get it, I really do. I've been watching BL morph
into a morass of mean-spirited, self-absorbed corporatism since February 14,
2001. But it didn't have to be that way.

Ah, I understand now. I don't use manual invoice, so this doesn't happen
to me.

I guess the real problem is that BrickLink allows buyers to mark the order as
paid (and once it is marked as paid, the seller can't change the price or
send an invoice or drive thru notification).

I haven't been around long enough to remember what the site was like under
Dan, but I feel like it used to be better. The user interface was not modern,
but at least the site worked.

Apologies for not including the part about manual invoice; I'm pissed at
the BL system, not you.

Yes. Precisely, WC. And while the powers that 'run' this speakeasy stand
by and do nothing to fix what in some cases are decade-old problems, sellers
like me have to apply duct tape and gorilla glue on the run. Frankly the degree
of self-inflicted deterioration taking place around us is at times breathtaking.

You pegged it. And again, I sincerely apologize for my sarcastic tone in replying
to you. I'm pouring my soul out to someone who genuinely seems to care, and
that was no way to go about it.

Regards,

Change the payment status to completed.
