Hi

It's been 2 and a half month since the 1st July (1st date where all online
marketplace need to charge taxes).

Did we have more info? or a date when Bricklink will charge the taxes automatically?

I didn't see updates in more than a month about this topic.

Canada has a King; His Majesty Charles III. Our late Queen's funeral is
today, and a grateful nation mourns her passing with reflection and prayer.

Our Queen, Elizabeth the Second, died ten days ago. You may have heard about
it on the news. The nation of Canada today mourns the passing of our sovereign
and head of state.

Me thinks he was joking.
Which would be a nice name for a King, BTW.

Indeed, I was.

Before Sep. 8 "when the Queen dies" = "it will never happen"

Trying to apply the same logic now = "hopefully Canadian sales tax will be implemented
soon"

I mean, this is technically illegal, right? 'Cause if not paying your taxes
is legal, them I've some, er, trading to do…

Which would be a nice name for a King, BTW.

The U.S. has a king: Joe King!

They keep saying that it’s coming but legally it should have already been in

Our provinces each have unique rules, making no efforts to harmonize. I would
go as far as saying certain provinces revel in the power to interfere. Particularly
difficult where small sellers are concerned. Bricklink has my sympathy. Its
probably our fault more than there’s.

I do agree it’s not an easy task but considering other marketplaces have had
it in effect since day one of the law changing it’s not impossible

The situation for Canada is a bit more complex than the US, in that provinces
and territories can levy their own provincial taxes (PST) on top of goods and
services taxes (GST). Some provinces have these combined in a harmonized tax
(HST). Different taxes might mean different instances for a market place to hand
over collected taxes, but I am not a marketplace-tax-expert.

Yup, a mess. But several times BL did promise implementation "soon" - for an
unknown value of "soon"...

But you've only 10 provinces to deal with!

Your states have 1 sales tax each (or none). In Canada we like to complicate
things.

It’s so much fun here in Canada with sales tax that almost no 2 stores (even
in the same province) will charge sales tax the same to different provinces

That's not totally accurate. Some municipalities in the US levy their own
taxes so the % of taxes assessed can vary even within a State - and BL or their
State sales tax calculating partner handles this.

Furthermore, different tax jurisdictions tax different things.

Some tax the full order amount, including shipping and handling.

Others tax only the order total, not including shipping.

And others don't tax online sales at all.

I honestly can't blame BrickLink for not being up to snuff on the whole taxes
thing… It's not an easy job.

I'm going to say it's not happening there because they didn't register
for the US side (or other countries, except the EU one). They felt the site didn't
qualify under the specified rules for it (whether that's accurate or not
is another thing).

As someone who sells things not necessarily for profit, but just to cycle things
through their collection, I'm a bit peeved. Used items sold through two private
parties that aren't businesses shouldn't be taxed goods. The item had
it's taxes paid when it was sold via retail.

Aren’t taxes fun, remember in the good ol days when people would wage wars over
taxes but now they are so confusing people don’t even bother

  Hi

It's been 2 and a half month since the 1st July (1st date where all online
marketplace need to charge taxes).

Did we have more info? or a date when Bricklink will charge the taxes automatically?

I didn't see updates in more than a month about this topic.

MEAD BRICKS

All Bricklink employees are all too busy working on the Help Desk making sure
that problems are handled in a timely manner.

Here’s to to the very unlikely hope of it being ready by the end of the year
otherwise I’ll have to manually do lots of taxes next year again…
(Wasn’t it already law in June or July? How is bricklink still not worried about
it? Publiclay they worry about it less then (insert funny comparison here))
