So not only are you putting yourself at risk, but why do you hold it against
Brickstore for not supporting W7 but you are OK with Microsoft not supporting
W7, which is a much bigger issue for you.

We are not really at risk with windows 7 we have adequate protection - Brickstore
, on the other hand seem to think the world is moving to app stores (which is
not the case for PC applications).
We think BS should continue to support windows 7 - they are abandoning over 100
million users (who also continue to use Windows 7)
We are far from being a Microsoft fan and we have been one of their partners
since 2000.

Perhaps BrickStore supporting Windows 7 is difficult when there is no official
support from MS?

Pssibly but the way the notice r4eads it is more to do with an app store.
"This comes with a lot of advantages, but also disadvantages for a few users.
The disadvantages:
Windows 7, 8.1 and macOS 10.13 are no longer supported, as they have been discontinued
by their respective vendors. Support for these platforms will not come back!
32bit Windows (x86) is no longer offered as pre-built package to download. Qt
(the library BrickStore is built upon) doesn't offer an installer for this
platform anymore, because there are too few users left using it. Getting BrickStore
running on a 32bit Windows 10 is technically possible, but you are on your own
here, having to build Qt 6.2.4 plus BrickStore yourself.

| Sounds to me like non-support by MS (and Apple) is causing issues with one or
more of the libraries used by BrickStore, and hence, BS can't support windows
7, etc. reliably.

| I'd just like to point out that Windows 8.1 is supported by Microsoft in
the way most people think 'supported' means, that is until January 2023,
which is 10 years from when it was released (approximately). Windows 8.1 still
receives monthly Windows security updates, but the current Brickstore does not
run on Win 8.1 anymore.

You don't have to update BrickStore, use the old version, or move to a
modern OS like Linux if you don't like Windows 10+.
How long should the developer support your outdated Windows, another 5 years,
another 10, forever?
And how about the users that would like new features implemented, features that
are not supported in the current libraries?
I am sure he made a decision that is best for the project.

Not only BrickStore is free (gratis), it’s also open source (GPL to be precise).
That means anybody can fork it, continue support for W7, while still following
with the main version and its new features.
That’s the magic of open source: Not happy with how it goes? You can do it yourself
and you don’t have to start from scratch.

Guess I know what I am doing later this week, loading the old QT, and forking
Tag v2022.4.1 - that is after those sets I just purchase get parted out.
Good time to dust off the C++ skills as they are a bit crusty.
I agree with Cal that windows 10 and 11 are too invasive for me. Windows 7 Enterprise,
forever.
BTW, MS still sends me security intelligence, malicious software removal tool,
and Windows defender antivirus updates. However, YMMV, as this may be because
I have an ESU for Windows 7.

Oh there are many ways to make Windows 10 lighter and safer:
* windows-privacy-tweaker.exe
* DisableWinTracking.exe
* 10AppsManager.exe
Use them and you get rid of a zillion hassles.
I used both of them on 10+ installed PCs, like a charm!
But just like you and Cal probably, we still *have* to be on Windows 7 (running
24/7 like Swiss clocks), at lest for the next 6 months/1 year.
I personnaly wrote to Robert Griebl, the creator.
Of course I don't think he'll rollback to the Windows 7 compatible version,
or gonna maintain both versions.
But I asked him if he could provide us with a patched version which won't
perpetually show the popup "A new version arrived, please update" - which will
be a pain.
If he won't I guess we'll have to find someone who'll install the
old QT and fork 2022.4.1
Maybe you, Macebobo, or me - or someone younger who's got more time than
us (I guess)

should be easy, it looks like the flag m_silent in checkforupdate.h can be set
to true and that will cause any update check to stay quiet.

I just tried and QT is a pig, took over an hour to install and then failed to
launch, I don't have time to mess with this anymore.
We may have to block the url used to check for an update, I will investigate

Two different servers, one on GitHub and db updates from Bricklink, so it will
work. If I didn't use GitHub for my project I could just add an entry to

A lot of LDraw tools are broken.
But Studio is being actively maintained/developed and can do many of the things

I know many are still using older versions of MacOS/Windows, but maintaining
