So I’m curious to know what y’all’s first set was. I’ll go first: mine was 9496
Desert Skiff. I remember getting it from a close friend back in the day. Still
own my Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett from that set. Sadly the rest has went to
the bin which I sold a few years ago. ( I remember having a 2014 Grand Inquisitor
in there too! 😕

I'm sure I received a few $5 to $10 Castle/Town sets for my birthday in 1991
or 1992, but the first set I have a memory of receiving and building was in 1993:

Set No: 6056 Name: Dragon Wagon
*
6056-1 (Inv) Dragon Wagon
97 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1993
Sets: Castle: Dragon Knights

It's still one of the most nostalgic sets for me, despite how flimsy the
build is. Also one of the greatest names for a Lego set!

‘93 was such a good year for Castle. Fire Breathing Fortress is still one of
my favorite ‘90s sets of all time!

I have that set from when I was a kid -- yeah not the greatest design, but
a great name for a Lego set.

Nowadays, when I say the words Dragon Wagon, I really mean Draggin' Waggon.
That's what they called Cooter's tow truck on The Dukes of Hazzard.

I don’t remember having a specific set as a child of the 60’s, only a small
box of odd items presumably something someone else had finished with.

This was mixed with the very poor Airfix Betta Bilda .

Only remember having sets as an adult which I bought for myself or my two daughters.

Not sure if it was actually the first set I got, but it is one of the sets I

Weetabix? Was that an exclusive set based on Weetabix? Looks great (including,
like my Texas Rangers set, illegal Lego techniques )

I am guessing the illegal techniques are the 1x2 for the horse ears. The sets
were a weetabix promotion, just search weetabix they all come up including the
back of the promo cerial packet for the full set

'Tis a shame; I would have happily traded my kingdom sets for city sets

I remember having some of the older Legoland minifigures, e.g.

Minifig No: old011 Name: Legoland - Black Torso, Black Legs, Black Hat
*
old011 (Inv) Legoland - Black Torso, Black Legs, Black Hat
Minifigures: LEGOLAND

and I think they came with a fire truck set (it was a long time ago!), but the
first set I remember receiving was either

Set No: 462 Name: Mobile Rocket Launcher
*
462-1 (Inv) Mobile Rocket Launcher
56 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1979
Sets: Space: Classic Space

or

Set No: 483 Name: Alpha-1 Rocket Base
*
483-1 (Inv) Alpha-1 Rocket Base
163 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 1979
Sets: Space: Classic Space

I had both (as well as other Space sets) but I don't remember which came
first - pretty sure these were 1-2 though. Maybe 462 for my birthday and 483
for Christmas.

I could guess but probably never be certain. I can say that I 100% remember
getting this set:

Set No: 6276 Name: Eldorado Fortress
*
6276-1 (Inv) Eldorado Fortress
462 Parts, 8 Minifigures, 1989
Sets: Pirates: Pirates I: Imperial Soldiers

I was completely blown away by how huge and amazing it was, that was a special
Christmas. Honestly makes me wonder if I am spoiling my kids now.

I dug out all the parts about 10 years ago and put it together again, I kind
of want to do a search for it again. Its one of those sets (along with the forestmen
ones) that really just bring me back.

Eldorado Fortress was such a great set. I know I’m biased because I’m a huge
fan of raised plates in general but the crane and rest of the build just make
this set so special. Someday I’ll have to get around to buying it. It’s very
expensive on the aftermarket though!

I'm sorting a ton of old parts, uploaded into rebrickable and it looks like
I have this in my lot. I have some of the printed panels and the baseplate,
and all the pieces I'm missing are pieces I haven't uploaded yet

Desert Skiff. I remember getting it from a close friend back in the day. Still
own my Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett from that set. Sadly the rest has went to
the bin which I sold a few years ago. ( I remember having a 2014 Grand Inquisitor

The first set I owned to myself was:

Set No: 4995 Name: Cargo Copter
*
4995-1 (Inv) Cargo Copter
272 Parts, 2008
Sets: Creator: Model: Airport

But I had been given sets to share with my siblings in the early 2000s. I remember
only a few of them, including this one:

Set No: 1349 Name: Steven Spielberg Moviemaker Set
*
1349-1 (Inv) Steven Spielberg Moviemaker Set
413 Parts, 7 Minifigures, 1 Gear, 2000
Sets: Studios

Black Falcons Fortress #6074. Loved that set, and got it for Christmas. I got
the Dark Dragons Den the following year. Loved those so much.

Castle sets in general are just so fun to build and collect. I’ve got to get
around to getting a raised plate castle someday!

Long time ago, but I believe my first set was the LEGO® City Fire Truck from
2004:

Set No: 7239 Name: Fire Truck
*
7239-1 (Inv) Fire Truck
208 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2005
Sets: Town: City: Fire
Lots of great features: minifig firefighters, trailer, boat, collapsible ladder,
etc.

Sets: Universal Building Set: Basic Set

Set No: 952  Name: Tractor
*
952-1 (Inv) Tractor
312 Parts, 1978
Sets: Technic: Expert Builder

Some of the first sets that were truly mine were these, and I still have them.

Set No: 566 Name: Basic Set
*
566-1 (Inv) Basic Set
294 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1981
Sets: Universal Building Set: Basic Set

Since then, it has been all chaos and now I own about 3,000 Lego sets and about
400 Green Baseplates. LEGO has kept me out of trouble for almost 50 years.

I think my first set was

Sets: Universal Building Set: Basic Set

I also had

It was impossible to buy lego in Yugoslavia back then. I was lucky enough my
father had lots of business trips to other European countries (Germany and Italy
mostly).

There is a big difference in my first memory getting a new set, the

Set No: 364 Name: Harbour Scene
*
364-1 (Inv) Harbour Scene
470 Parts, 7 Minifigures, 1975
Sets: LEGOLAND: Harbor
and my memory of the sets I had in my childhood. My parents and I were having
a weekend camping in a caravan my uncle had. My sister was yet to be born, but
my neighbor friend aged 4 came along. I was a little over 3 years old at the
time. We visited the fairy tale forest in the Efteling - which I mostly remember
through the pictures of me and my friend holding our ears against the giant mushrooms
in the park. These mushrooms played soft music and fairy tale stories. A lovely
amusement park. It still is, but I digress.

My parents were to give me the LEGO set but would not want to create havoc between
us boys, so creatively my father gave himself the present of the harbor. Of course
when arriving at home, the set was joined with the rest of the LEGO I had. And
my father never got any more LEGO but he was allowed to help me play with mine.

There must have been quite some LEGO and Duplo around at the time I got the harbor
scene. Most of it I remember having (as I still have it) but hardly any I remember
getting. Vague memories of family Sinterklaas festivities and birthday parties.
Those early childhood memories are mostly strengthened by moments you happen
to have photos of. (photo: me at age 2,5)

  Now I am building a London Bus from Agora Models.

Had a look, and don't get how their plans work, but that seems very expensive
(first glance) like 1000$+ total for a model?

That sure seems very nice apart this!

A bit more, but these are expensive builds but on a subscription basis so I can
get them without my wife knowing and objection too much.
I did order a 1961 Jaguar complete and unfortunately that I cannot hide when
it arrives.

I understand, and those are really nice models.
But be cautious, a new wife would cost you FAR much more

I really dig that type of model. Very cool!

Is it the 1:12 scale model? This one:

London Transport Routemaster Bus RM857 112 Scale

Yes. That is the World of Wayne who I have learned almost all I know about building
these things. Great videos to help people learn and point out mistakes in the
instructions.
These building models is probably replacing my old joy of building Lego.

The first one I remember is the Saucer Scout 6835. It was such a special set
to me because my grandma took me shopping for my birthday and I got to pick it
out myself. We couldn't usually afford Lego so I didn't have much growing
up.

Priceless pic.

These are all good replies! I think my favorite mentioned in this thread has
to be the OG Republic Gunship from 2002. I honestly need to pick one up, but
the figures alone cost a small fortune. Even the 2 Supers are at least $70 each
last I checked. The fact that Jedi Bob is over $100 is just insane!

Yeah, prices are "insane" I remember when I could hardly giveaway the Jedi Knights
from that that set, had loads of them too. Ended up parting them out for chump-change.
Never understood back then why some figures were for years, undesired. I wrote
it off as folks just wanting the popular villain/hero characters, the more black
n'white roles in the movies. Guess I really don't know the consumer mindset.

My son still recalls the set too. "Hey dad, you remember that gunship set?" kind
of thing. It was his first set, but never really got a lot of Lego sets after
his seventh birthday, some here and there. He enjoyed other things more, like
his KTM at eight years-old when we moved to California living in the desert.
After that, it was all about the outdoors and dirt bikes, backcountry trekking,
shooting, etc. I 'americanized' him, the western style

Thanks for the great thread. Some fantastic reading from others.

My pleasure Popsicle! I love the more interactive threads like these but don’t
see them very often on the forum, so I decided to try my luck! Happy BrickLinking
everybody!

I guess I must be getting old....

The first set I 100% remember having was Coast Guard Station 575. I still have
some of the pieces.

After that my childhood attention was almost entirely focused on Classic Space,
with a couple Expert Builder sets here and there.

Thank you
