I spent the day with my dad. He's in end stage kidney failure so he decided
to take up cigar smoking (because why not!). He has less then 2 months left
according to the Drs. Not sure what i want to say but i guess it's, as we
get older, don't miss all the things we take for granted. They are gone
sooner than you think. Life goes by way faster than you think it does. Sometimes
you just smoke a cigar with your dad because you can! (not looking for I'm
sorry's, just appreciate today, because tomorrow is guaranteed!)

Consider yourself very fortunate. My dad died when I was 13, my mother was pretty
much catatonic and I had no one to tell me what I could do or set limits.
Enjoy every second you have with him. Do do not know the full extent of what
you have.

Sure you did well! Do the much you can, and try to do even better. We've
got only one ticket.

Well...

Tell him some stranger(s) far away are now (and will be) thinking at him; I'm
sure looking at him that he did the best he could in this far too short time
life gives us.

Ah, and quit cigar - Not him, but you!
Take great care of yourself and the ones around you.

Wishing you both the best we can get here.

Enjoy the time you have with your dad. My family all lives very close and we
get together for Sunday lunch after church every week. We go on vacation together
at least once a year. I do miss my grandparents, almost every day. I pray that
he finds comfort in his final days.

Treasure the time you have with him. I lost my father a number of years ago,
due to throat cance (caused by years of smoking cigars). Now my mother has developed
dementia, but interestingly, we only found out after we had to move into her
house after a wildfire destroyed ours, so as it turns out, there was a positive
side to the situation-- she has gotten progressively worse, and we might
not have known she needed assistance for much longer had that not happened.

And know that you are not alone. See this thread:

Take care,
Maggie

Tell Dad that he is cherished, not just by you, but by all of us. I had to read
it over and over again. It just hit me hard. We don't know how long we are
given on this earth.

Time flies by so fast, that we wonder where it went. Know that your online AFOL
community sends their love amd prayers to you and your family. Tell Dad to enjoy
those cigars 😊

Hahaha, great stuff, yes, smoke that cigar, enjoy it.

I nearly died some 6 years ago, I changed my live after that.
Do silly things with your dad, enjoy.

Maybe drink a nice old whiskey?

Cheers,
Maxx

Couldn’t agree more, cherish every day.

Lost my father when I was a teenager and never got to know him well.

Wishing you well.

The smile and obvious enjoyment he is getting from his new vice shows he's
taking life by the horns and going on his terms. Cherish the moments and make
sure he knows you are comfortable with what's going to happen.

Cancer is a terrible way to go. Too many of us have painful memories of loved
ones fighting to the end with little enjoyment in their last months.

I lost my Mom to Pancreatic Cancer. After almost a year of treatment and surgery,
she needed another one and decided the few months she would gain weren't
worth the pain. My last memories are of her in a hospital lasting twice as long
as expected after they pulled the feeding tube.

I lost my Dad to a massive heart attack while on a fishing trip. The Sunday
before he left, we went golfing then to a Seattle Mariners game. My daughter
and my last memories of him are the day we enjoyed together.

There is no question which memories are more pleasant.
