| Is there an easy way to distinguish the two colors. I'm having problems
sorting 1 x 2 bricks

The difference is easier to spot in natural light. Try that or different types
of lightbulbs until the shades become very obvious.

| I get that consistency wasn't there back in 2004 when the changes were made
to the new grey and that people were genuinely upset, but I personally prefer
the newer grey over the older one.

| Yes,
The new grey does look a bit nicer in terms of brightness.

For novelty's sake, does anyone happen to know where to find old web pages
with decent banter about the color changes? I'd like to read some of the
arguments people were having at the time.

I use an led lamp with five different color temperatures. Really helps sorting
the grays and browns.

Some of the ones on the right look like light gray even with the color adjustments
to the photo.
Part of the problem is that yellowed LBG and newish LG look *really* similar.

Looks like you missed one even in your highly doctored picture

I find Stacking several together, laying them on a known gray (old board in this
case). I have natural light, a slightly yellow overhead light and a LED light.
I haven't figured out which one is best. But morning is always better than
evening. Also shine the LED past the bricks not at the bricks. Also the inside
doesn't seem to yellow as much as the outer edges.
But even with the tricks it can still be difficult.

I’ve also found that LBG parts released around 2011-2013 fade and yellow quicker
than other LBG parts. Newer LBG parts will have semicircles on the underside
of the brick/plate. Older colors will never have those. I believe these started
appearing in parts released around 2012, so anything in between 2003 and 2012
will be slightly harder to be sure of, but my 2004-2011 LBG parts are pretty
consistent.
