As someone who has been a part of the BrickLink community for exactly one year
(joined 8/10/2021), there's been one question bouncing around in my mind
for quite a while now. Since I'm celebrating one year as a BrickLink buyer
today, I figured I would put this question out there to the veteran members of
the BrickLink community so I can finally stop puzzling over this one little thing
that's been driving me crazy for one full year now.

When I look at the 'Sets' section on the website, one of the categories
I see is 'LEGO Ideas (CUUSOO)'. My question is... what does 'CUUSOO'
actually stand for? (If someone asked that question in the past and got an answer,
well, I'm too lazy to search through years and years worth of posts in the
forum to find that answer, so please excuse me if it's been asked before.)

It's not what it stands for it's what it means.

I have been here for a bit now but thought I'd help.

In Japanese, the word “cuusoo” means to imagine and wonder about something unlikely
to happen. The concept of the CUUSOO program is to make LEGO fans' dreams
come true.

The program is now called lego ideas, this is because their ideas come to life.

Well... that actually makes sense to me. As someone who only communicates in
English and American Sign Language (I took three years of Spanish in school and
didn't do so well - I probably should've taken German instead due to
my ancestry), I thought those letters stood for something that took six words
to describe, which would've made it too long to fit in a header. Just goes
to show what I know about LEGO... not a whole lot!

What's more interesting is the origin of that keyword. The origin of the
Ideas project is a non Lego (company wise) project and company called CUUSOO.
It's a tribute to the original project name I think.

And the first few sets of the project are very local to Japan, after switching
over to the Ideas sets become US/global market oriented.

It makes even more sense to me now, considering that the names of the first two
sets under the 'CUUSOO' banner have Japanese names instead of American
or European names.

If I remember correctly: cuusoo was (still is?) a Japanese website where people
could propose ideas and these ideas might see a day of light. And of course after
the success LEGO decided to accept people's ideas at their own website and
with a new market name (LEGO IDEAS).

Found something because BL was down: CUUSOO.com
