| Hi, i have (alomost) performed a set partout for 76912 which is not a very big
set. Its has a few new items, some color additions to existing designs and a
new minifig torso/head. Sorting, counting, checking numbers, checking what is
what etc etc
I must say it is a hell of a lot of work !! I must not even think of doing a
really large set... respect for the people doing that !!
SO -- i notice that there is a very LARGE backlog in set partouts on Bricklink
for newer sets! And also the approval process is not very fast it seems. I understand
that it has to be done very carefully.
BUT - I also notice that on BRICKSET i very quickly find a set inventory for
also NEW sets ? How can that be the case ?? It is missing the addl parts etc
but for the rest they seem mostly correct.
SO -- as bricklink is my favorite for selling stuff, and bricklink is OWNED
BY the LEGO group im am still wondering wqhy we cannot automate the process of
creating set inventories based on data coming out of LEGO itself and create set
inventories in Bricklink automatically (surely with correct item numbers etc
- but that can be automated too i guess !! Pretty sure they have all data present
, numbers , counts, addl parts etc etc

Actually - the csv inventory from BRICKSET combined with the codes csv from bricklink
has been of great help to me to generate the XML file that is needed to import
the set inventory into bricklink -- i am just waiting for my new items and

You seem not to have understood my first remark in https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1355609:
“First, LEGO inventories (the same as on Brickset) are already used to
pre-fill BL inventories […]”
… and to have missed / skipped the option when you created that inventory.
IOW, when you create an inventory on BL, you have the option to use the data
from LEGO to pre-fill the inventory.
It does exactly what you did whith your CVS files… but without your having to
lift a finger!
IOOW, what you’re suggesting already exists, but we failed to explain it to you
correctly and you then missed the option when you created that inventory.
Sorry for the extra work you did….

Yes, mostly. The quantities should be checked by building the set (or fake-building:
just counting the parts while reading the instructions).
It’s not unheard of for LEGO to make errors in the inventories.

hi thx, the question is : to what value do i set quantity ??
1) the number mentioned in the instruction
-- in which case i add something like extra parts when lego has added addly
pieces
2) the total number counted in the set (including the extra pieces) ... so in
several cases that will be one more than the number specified in the instruction
menual

The Regular inventory should only include the quantity of parts used to build
the set.
Help for Catalog Inventories:

Once you have the inventory pending. You can add easily add Extras by entering
the number in the EXT field.
Or you can enter them manually using the form at the bottom of the inventory.

Because an inventory in Brickset is not accurate....
Lego do not care about the accuracy of the inventory in regards to new moulds,
printed parts etc.
Bricklink is the most accurate for inventories because they go through this process.
It may be a long tedious process but that is why we can 100% trust inventories
on Bricklink.

Hi, thats not my point. I am pretty sure lego know exactly how many parts go
into a set, how many extra parts , what designid, what colorcode etc ... up to
the last decimal !!
It will be just a matter of getting that data so that we have a starting poit
-- followed by the bricklink checking process which confirms accuracy and
add stuuf like minifigs
I only here why think cannot be done here - lets focus on how it can be done
!! So that bricklink has an innevtory BEFORE brickset has !

Dont believe that !
They are highly automated in designing/creating parts, filling plastic bags that
go into sets, adding exactly 1 to some small parts as extra etc etc ... also
sets imho are almost always correct without missing parts etc
so they know exactly - pretty 99.999 % sure of that
it will be a matter of exchanging data

Also pretty sure that there are contacts between bricklink and lego group as
brickling is owned by lego group and an idela market place for new and used parts

So are these kind of data exchanges as i am sugegsting being discussed between

I would say - getting a baseline of the set inventory from lego.com exactly as
it goes into the box (and is sold to lego customers) would be a good starting
point. That should be pretty styraightforward. That will give at least the base
set inventory in bricklink. From tehre we can add the bricklink specific itemids,
add stickerd parts (decorated part should already be in), add minifigs etc ...
That would speed up thing considerably i guess. We

BrickLink inventories must be done by hand. The data from LEGO (also found on
Brickset) is production data. They don't need to worry about patterns or
variants or mold numbers or anything else once their set goes out the door. They
can replace molds, items, patterns, colors, and instructions whenever they want.
They don't define minifigs, describe patterns, or include sticker sheets.
I am working on the inventory for set 43205. LEGO still has part:
listed in the set even though the actual part:
has been out for a decade.
There isn't a magic button to turn LEGO production data into BrickLink inventory
data. We are not in competition with Brickset to do anything first as we all
have the same access to the same data at the same time. Brickset's data is
just a list of parts LEGO says are in the set. BrickLink shows what IS actually
in the set.

I am not telling you your suggestions aren't any good. Some of the things
you are mentioning we have. We do already have the data you want. We are not
lagging behind anyone in having the most complete and accurate LEGO catalog on
the web. Our inventories do take some time and effort so thank you for contributing!

It will be just a matter of getting that data so that we have a starting poit

add stuuf like minifigs
I only here why think cannot be done here - lets focus on how it can be done
!! So that bricklink has an innevtory BEFORE brickset has !

BrickLink shows what IS actually
in the set.

hi thanks, well shouldns we have better access to data as bricklink is owned by
lego group ? it would at least give a starting point for an inventory, maybe
99% accurate to be completed in briclink etc ... now you have to do the whole
thing ... (actually i used the brickset csv as starter for my inventory ) pretty
world on the top i would say
but again -- on several occasions i hear why things cannot be done --
although it might get things up to speed for 99% which is ok (and 1% to be confirmed

Hey,
We do already have the same data as Brickset to start our inventories. It saves
lots of time and counting.
I let you know about this not so long ago:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1355651
You can also compare what we have on BrickLink with the data from LEGO here:
https://www.bricklink.com/v3/inventorycomparison/main.page
No one is saying that LEGO won't share better data with us. I don't think
they even generate the kinds of data we need to complete an inventory.

When you get to the verification page, advance your inventory to the approval
stage and you can adjust the details there. We know about the back button issue.

Ok Thanks, worked myself around there.
Other question... some parts have 2 item numbers that refer to the same thing.
Can i use either one or is there a preference in using the one found in the bricklink
initial inventory (for example 3024 versus 28554) ... can i pick any of the
2 or is there a best practice there ?

When an item has an alternate number, use only the main catalog number. In this
case: 3024. Alternate numbers do work in the search bar, but not in set inventories.

Yes, I apologize, there is a small bug here. If you have to go back from the
Verify screen, the 'known data' pop-up pops up again. This time click
Cancel. As long as you started the process with enough lots lines (Number of
