Over the last month or so, I have placed some 30 orders, and naturally some issues
come up, of which can be done better.

THE EXPERIENCES
This is in respect to, when I place an order with a store, sometimes they are
not able to find many of the part(s) of which I am seeking to purchase.

This can get complicated, where I have already made my payment for that order
as I do via PayPal.

As I am prepared to buy there again soon, my option has always been, for the
vendor/seller to issue me a coupon to the value of the missing parts.

WHAT I SEEK HERE IS
Rather than be issued a coupon, there are some improvements of which can help
here.

#1, A search option for that store, which will give me only the items of which
are exactly the price of the missing part(s)

#2, A search option, which shows up only the items of which are below that value.

#3, An easy reference point, like in a cart, of which says, how much to go before
I reach the value of these missing part(s)

#4, Let the seller suggest buying these instead

Not quite what you are looking for, but if you sort a store's inventory by
price, then you can easily find parts of a given value (or above or below).

#2, A search option, which shows up only the items of which are below that value.

Again, sort by price.

You said it yourself: Look at the value in your shopping cart. Does not include
tax and/or shipping, but if you know the value of the coupon then you can adjust
accordingly.

#4, Let the seller suggest buying these instead

When I come up short on some pieces, I always give the buyer a choice of a generous
refund (price of parts plus a few extra dollars to cover shipping, tax, etc.
from another store) or parts shipped from another store free of charge. Most
choose the refund. As a buyer myself, I understand how inconvenient it can be
when sellers are missing parts, so issuing the buyer a refund or coupon for the
exact value of the missing parts is not really fair in my opinion.

Or just use the min / max filter in the store (under all filters).

If it is MANY parts missing then they should definitely give you the option to
cancel. Missing one or two is understandable (although they should still offer
to cancel if they are important parts), but many parts missing is just poor.

I prefer that the seller offers
(i) a refund for the missing parts,
(ii) a refund and cancel the entire order or
(iii) buyer can select parts up to the value $X as compensation, or
(iv) something suggested by buyer agreeable to the seller.

A coupon should not be offered, as the buyer might be unlikely to want to shop
in a store that cannot supply items ordered, especially if they have already
been through the store and bought all the items they want.

It can get complicated depending on what the buyer wants, seller's stock,
how much the order value is, etc which is why it is better to have some negotiation
between buyer and seller.

There are times when we can not find a part or a minifig for an order. When we
offer a coupon for something missing then we offer it as one option out of two
or three options. The options we offer is... 1st option is to give them a refund
for the missing pieces plus shipping so they can order it from another store
if they so choose and we will include a free bee bag of Lego / 2nd option is
to cancel the order and give them a full refund / Sometimes we offer a 3rd option
where send the rest of the order issue a coupon equal to the total of the items
missing plus extra for shipping (plus free bee bag).

If we are missing a minifig then we will quite often just order it from another
store and have them send it directly to the customer and we will let the customer
to know about it.

I have always felt that to offer a customer a refund or coupon for just the value
of the missing just dose not feel quite right. If the customer has to place an
order in another store in order to get the missing pieces, they will need to
pay for shipping twice and that just seems unfair.

Jim.
