Any shortcuts for entering inventory? I am a new Brinklink store owner and painstakingly
entered one color of my inventory 1 part at a time using Brinklink's interface.
I had hoped there was a way to download what I have entered and get it into
Excel and then update it for my other color parts and then upload back to bricklink.
Is there software to help one do this? XML file is useless to me as my programming
skills are pretty rusty.

Welcome to the world of BrickLink selling.

For manually entering inventory, I find it more efficient to add all of the same
parts of all colors at the same time, rather than adding stuff of all one color
at the same time.

I have also memorized the basic color numbers so I can manually change the price
guide URL for the same item from one color to the next:
The basic color numbers are
1 = White
2 = Tan
3 = Yellow
4 = Orange
5 = Red

6 = Green
7 = Blue
11 = Black
85 = Dark Bley
86 = Light Bley
88 = Reddish Brown

Here are the BL instructions on how to create an upload file by creating an XML
file: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=22

The most commonly used FREE third-party software is BrickStore
https://www.bricklink.com/linkClick.asp?ID=282

I prefer adding pieces one at a time directly to BrickLink. Creating an XML
or BrickStore file offers the possibility of keystroke errors. The error that
trips me up most often is forgetting to change the color from one line to the
next.

How about a compromise:

85 = Dark Blae
86 = Light Blae

Try Brick Seller. It has many nice features for maintaining your inventory.

If you are not familiar with Brick Seller, you can find a link to it on the BrickLink

If your used (assuming you mean used) parts pertain to a sets or sets. Finding
distinct parts from those sets / identifying the set and then parting out is
not so tedious.

If you have only few of the parts from those sets checking "Exclude all items
from upload by default" simplifies the job to uncheck those parts that exist
at hand. On the contrary if you have most of the parts from that set then you
can leave the option as is and check the parts that exist at hand.

The difficult but most entertaining part is the identification part though.
