This is the only set this skateboard appeared in. Someone should also remove
that photo for a Brown skateboard.

I don't agree with these 'poor-quality Red parts'. The Rusty ones
don't look red at all and some of them exist in red and rust. What about
sellers and buyers?! If I would order a red part, I won't be pleased with
a rust one and the other way around.

What Bricklink has called Rust for a long time are just Red parts that don’t
match too well to your typical Red brick. It is similar to Brittle Blue and your
many shades of Pearl Gold. Unless we want to establish a precedent of giving
inconsistent shades their own BL colors, it is best to move these parts under
the color they actually are.

I understand and I was thinking about the Pearl Gold Shades as well at the moment
I read this post. Listed as Pearl Light Gold and Flat Dark Gold, but if you list
them all as Pearl Gold, like you should, every now and then you receive a message
from a buyer, that he didn't receive the color he ordered and you can ship
one 1x1 plate overseas.
But well, it's cheaper then splitting hundreds of small cheap parts and make
3 listings with a description.
I understand and agree with your theory, but looking at the buying / selling
side, it will cause problems if parts that have been listed as rust for years,
suddenly would turn red. If my rust listings and wanted items are changed to
red, I wouldn't be happy with it at all. And buying rust items would be very
hard if all listings are changed to red.

Seems like this problem started the very moment Bricklink decided to add 'Rust'
to hold bad Red parts 20+ years ago. There might be a slight issue with buyers
and sellers, but these parts aren't as common as all the different variants
of Pearl Gold, so I don't think it would cause a very big problem.
Because BL Rust never actually correlated to an official LEGO color, it has only
served the purpose of containing an incomplete collection of TLG 13 Red Orange
cows and bad Red parts, with the latter creating unnecessary confusion and the
invention of a color that never even existed. Plus, given that LEGO had introduced
a color called Rust in 2004 it becomes much easier to just move those parts over
to BL Rust instead of creating a completely different color. We've seen this
issue with Transparent Bright Green and Medium Brown, where LEGO had introduced
a new color using a name that Bricklink was already using for another color.
BL 108 Transparent Bright Green used to belong to what we call Transparent Light
Bright Green until LEGO introduced their own Transparent Bright Green. It took
a very long time to move TLG 227 Transparent Bright Yellowish Green into its
own BL color once again.
Therefore, I believe that the confusion these Bad Red/old BL Rust parts cause
can best be solved with catalog notes. Sellers looking for these 'Rust'
parts are just looking for a Red variant.

Hey Randy, for this parts that show discrepancy from the actual color and seem
to be other, could we accept photo for the other color too, in that case BLY,
and in the red parts accept Rust images, so if a seller wants to list that part
in that shade it be possible? This only if the part never came officially in
that other color.
This way the catalog data is correct for inventories but BrickLink marketplace
can still work with this known color issues for some specific parts. All of this
would need to be stated in the catalog note.
