In the last few months I must have had about 20 Reddish Brown plates that are
so brital they simple snap in your hand with no presure.

The main suspects seem to be 2x6's and 4x6's

The bricks in question all came from different places purchased as job lots.

Maybe a bad batch?

Bad years!
It was about the time of the Hobbits sets that Lego produced these brittle reddish
brown parts.
I presume yours are from around that period too, new or used, doesn’t make a
difference, they are all poor quality.

Indeed, reddish brown, dark brown, dark red from hobbit / lotr figures are usually
awful.

When I first started selling, I remember replacing cracked arms on Uruk-Hai torsos,
now, the torso itself will crack or even explode if you attempt that. Even on
seemingly good condition torsos, I get paranoid to move the arm out of the way
to check for a torso crack fearing that just doing that will cause the arm or
torso to crack as it squeaks and groans during rotation.

973pb1130c01 (Inv) Torso LotR Leather Armor with Buckle Pattern (Uruk-hai) / Dark Red Arms / Dark Bluish Gray Hands

Like the cleaner says in Toy Story 2: "He's for display only. You handle
him too much, he's not gonna last."

I've seen it too. I'm building a MOC using dark red and doing a lot of
building and rebuilding to try different things. I keep a garbage bucket on my
desk to discard all the pieces that snap in the process.

"Brittle" is the term most people use to describe them. Try searching for that
word in the forums - there is lots of discussions.

Seems it was a problem with the dye LEGO used for a few colours.

Particularly bad are the pirates of the caribbean cannon bases. Good luck getting
a canon out of that without the clips exploding.

I had this with a bunch of 2x10 or 2x12; it was incredible, they broke when you
simply disassembled them.

Removed from shop, and used here for our tests models and playing, but some go
to the garbage from times to time.

I had this problem with one kit in just this one colour, universally with 2x4s
(i.e. every single one of them broke) and no other sizes/colours.

Will the LEGO company replace these? I know they have a policy of replacing
pieces that break. I got a new engine piece for my Duplo train when the sound
quit working on the one I had. First they denied, but when I followed up they
replaced it. I don't know their exact policy. But I suspect they know about
the brittle problem for specific colors produced in specific years, and will
replace if asked. Maybe send them a picture of the broken pieces.

They did for me last year on a 2009 Creator Cabin set, but only the re-brown
parts, the dark red were "out of stock".

This was a bad April Fools joke. I scanned a few of mine, and the QR code is
just the number below the plant code/date.

And the same set, bought from the same retailer, at the same time, from a sealed
lego case have different codes.

I call BS, since Björk Schoenwald, LEGO Co-Director of Perceptive Quality does
not exist. Hover over his name on that website.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, especially when the URL
has 4-1-22 in it
