Hello,

Outside of buying a second set to add an extra floor to a modular building, what
is the easiest way to do this? Lego's new brick replacement section is a
mess, incomplete, and not easy to navigate. I have no idea how to do it on Bricklink
or other sites, without spending a fortune. Occasionally, I'll see a random
extra floor for sale, but it's usually pricey and incomplete. Any ideas on
how I can do this easily?

(1) Try to find the 3D model for Studio, then (2) edit it to your liking and
(3) export the modified floor as a wanted list to Bricklink.
As soon as you have a wanted list on Bricklink, you can (4) use various tools
to select a few shops where (5) you can buy the collected parts.

Enjoy!

There is a difference between easily and cheaply. The easy route is to buy the
extra floor on ebay after someone else gas done the work. The reason this is
often expensive is because the roof and ground floors are less valuable than
middle floor(s).

The only thing I can come up with that can work well is to download the instructions
and with Studio, recreate the floor you want with all the items you want in it
and then create a wishlist from the program. Once you have all the parts itemized
and sorted into a chart-like structure, you can go into bricklink AND Lego bricks
and pieces in the customer service section and compare prices against the two
options. This way you can split the order and get the pieces you want at the
prices you want to pay.

With Lego brick and pieces, you can order as many different pieces you want at
an allotment of 200 each. Sometimes B&P can be cheaper than Bricklink but not
always. I can say that Lego shipping IS far cheaper than some vendors on Bricklink.

Buying another set and selling off the rest of the parts is unfortunately the
easiest way to expand a modular, it's the least effort and time consuming
solution. Piecing together a floor on the secondary market doesn't really
save any money in my opinion.

I have done that for half of the modular series. But it's tougher to buy
a second set with the older, retired sets. Specifically, I'm trying to add
extra floors for Fire Brigade, Town Hall, Grand Emporium, and Pet Shop.
