| So I have had 3 buyers message me today saying the orders I just picked this
evening have tracking numbers that say they were delivered within the last week
somewhere else in the USA. I recall reading on the forum before that tracking
numbers are reused, but it just seems strange that I have had 3 like that today.
Does anyone else have an issue like this? Will they update when they are scanned
at the local post office when I drop them off?

What comes up when you enter the numbers?
Maybe you sent/copied the wrong link.

USPS tracking number for FCPS and PM are good for 4 months. If you pay for a
signature, it’s kept for 1 year. If they are checking USPS directly, they should
not see old numbers. Search engines, or third party repositories might keep that
for longer tho.

I am having this same problem. I checked my orders today after someone requested
a tracking number and I went to the tracking page so I could send them the direct
link. It looks like 6 out of 9 of the labels I purchased today are recycled tracking
numbers. Are you using ShipStation like I am? I've never seen this before
but it is certainly a problem as I can't imagine my customers are going to
be happy with my reply.

Just got this from ShipStation in a chat:
Hi Peter. Thank you for reaching out to PayPal by ShipStation! I understand
you're seeing an issue with recycled tracking numbers.
The reason that a USPS tracking number might reflect a "Delivered" status, even
though you just generated a label or shipped the package, could be either because
the USPS assigned a recycled tracking number to your shipment or the USPS scanned
the shipment incorrectly. This situation may happen because of the high volume
of shipments sent through USPS. Tracking numbers get recycled on occasion. The
solution to this issue is to wait until the Post Office scans the label, then
the tracking information will update accordingly.
However, if your tracking number doesn't update after the carrier has scanned
your package, the package will arrive, but the tracking may not update.
Additionally, here is more information on Recycled Tracking Numbers: https://help.paypal.shipstation.com/hc/en-us/articles/4713709229595-Why-does-USPS-show-my-package-as-Delivered-if-I-just-shipped-it-
Our Development team is aware of the issue and currently investigating it with
the Carrier (USPS) directly. Once there has been a resolve you will receive a
reply directly to this email thread. We understand any frustrations or concerns
you have had and do apologize for any inconveniences caused.
Chatting with them a little more they said that the issue affected yesterday
and some of today but has now been resolved. Hope this helps anyone else that
was affected today.

I talked to the post office this morning about the issue. They looked at one
of the numbers in their system and it just kept going on from the old tracking
info, never reset. They were at a loss as to why. Seems like it may be a bigger
bug with the USPS.

SipStation is wrong about the automatic replacement of old information with new.
About a year back, a local retail counter person erroneously scanned one of my
packages as DELIVERED, instead of ACCEPTANCE. The progress of the transit and
delivery was never displayed beyond that.

| This is happening to me and I don't use Ship Station. I use Stamps.com.
So it is a bigger problem.

| I had this problem yesterday with every package saying it was delivered back
to me. Today I checked one package I sent out this morning and it says it was
delivered to Macon, GA on January 27th. That is some time travel.

I've had the same issue with at least two packages I sent via Shipstation
yesterday. One I shipped from Minneapolis to St. Paul. Tracking # shows it was
sent last week from NY to TX. The other I sent from Mpls to Kansas. Tracking
shows it was sent last month from TX to Denver!!!
I hope they resolve this internally without having to buy and create new labels
and delay the whole process if they come back to the shippers/sellers!!

| Hello,
This is very regular issue in our store with shipments to Italy. We mark some
orders as delivered, then the buyer says it hasn't been - Numbers are re-used
all the time with Italian postages, no idea why..
hope this helps..
