I have found this 1x2 brick with "embossed" Lego logo. This is not just surface
printed but relief embossed into the plastic and then white paint put into the
grooves. Not sure if this may have been a normal way to make a printed part back
in the day, but I thought someone here might know better about this sort of thing.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that’s a samsonite era piece.

It's a bit hard to tell if that printing is embossed or not. It is not specified
in the description and there is a separate category for embossed parts is there
not?

They are engraved rather than embossed. There isn't a special category for
them, just decorated brick. They are quite common. I have some 2x2 somewhere
as well.

Thank you all for your help. Even after all these years I still learn something
new about Lego every day. Cheers!

And the opposite of embossing is debossing. So it is technically a debossed pattern.

Aren't these heat stamped which leaves an impression and some raising around
the edges?
