Hi all,

Is there a generic way I can put something on all my order requests without having
to manually send messages to each seller each time I buy?

I've recently had a spate of orders arrive in food boxes (e.g. muesli bar
boxes) - which is a huge problem for me since I have a bunch of food allergies
and intolerances and I'd really rather not have those set off by my Lego
orders.

Thanks and best regards,
-J

I think it should be common sense to not do it like that.
No shipping in food boxes, no shipping in tobacco related boxes. Not as an inner
box, not as an outer box.
This to avoid allergic reactions, bad smell and hygienic problems.
The only thing to avoid this is probably to make a note with an order.
Good luck!

What is a food box though? If you use a store / shipping box that had 12 boxes
of 6 cereal bars inside, is it common sense not to use that?

A "food box" is a box that's had food inside it in some way.

The box I referred to didn't have boxes of cereal bars, it was a box that
contained cereal bars. You're thinking a layer too big

Some food allergies are triggered by traces of volatile chemicals in the food,
some of which can leach through plastic wrappers and embed into cardboard and
then be released later.

This whole airborne volatile chemical allergy thing is why I can't go near
orange citrus in any form and why a lot of schools have a "no nuts" rule (here
in Australia at least).

That's why I asked as if volatile chemicals can leach through plastic into
card, then they can presumably also get into the shipping box too, especially
if those cardboard boxes are in a factory where the bars are produced and wrapped
and boxed then outer boxed. I find 12x packs of noodle outer boxes are great
size plus reasonably strong.

Same here.

Nope, that is not what tte OP and I meant, at least, not me.

I think he meant boxes that directly contained the substance, the (can I call
it shippingbox) outer box is a different thing but maybe not the case when you
have an extreme allergy.

Cereal bars are typically wrapped in plastic, so that is the direct packaging.
And that is probably the issue with using them and common sense. Different people
will have different assumptions as to what is contaminated.

Id never thought of this issue! Bad form on my part. I use card from cereal boxes
to make little envelopes for cloaks so they don't get screwed up in transit
{not that I sell a huge amount but now and again} . I shall resource my card,
and I thought I was being good for recycling.

I often do the same for sticker sheets as lego has not come up with a sensible
way of protecting new ones in sets. I also occassionally use cut down cereal
boxes when sorting used parts.

I typically use Lego boxes for this purpose

For capes and small sticker sheets, I find 2 business cards sandwiching it works
well and customers have told me they very much like it.

No food, so no sandwiching!

Maybe try to avoid that seller if at all possible. If not there is a note to
seller field on the last step of the checkout process that you can use to leave
the seller a note (e.g., "Please do not use food boxes, I have a food allergy").

One time, I received an order in a shoe box. It has a small hole in the side
and many pieces were missing.

Due to your severe allergy, and levels of food contamination that many would
not even realize exist, you should include it in your comments. Some sanitation
sprays that folks use contain citrus.

Personally, I like the concept of reuse and have noticed that this is more common
from European sellers than US sellers. I would hate to see a policy that required
sellers to use all new packing materials. Out of hundreds of orders, I have
only once received items in packing that still had any noticeable food residue.

We often reuse cereal/bar/LEGO/pasta boxes to be as green as possible. We regularly
get thanked or have positive FB/comments for doing this.

I never thought about the allergy potential before. I just put a notice at the
top of our terms page to ask buyers to request to not use them if they have severe
allergies.

Hope you're ok and were able to use the parts. Definitely won't store
Lego in food boxes from now on

Ahh, brings back memories. We once received an order in an Apple Jacks cereal
box.

I recently had a bunch of orders arrive in armor-plated depleted uranium boxes,
which is a huge problem for me since I have a bunch of Geiger counters and I
would rather not have them set off by my LEGO orders.
