I’m trying to buy every Star Wars minifig ever and I am missing quite a few.
Normally bricklink doesn’t tell the shipping cost and I’m wondering what the
best way to buy Minifigs in bulk is. Any help would be appreciated.

That's going to cost quite the pretty penny.

Make a wanted list with all the Star Wars figs for starters, I'd suggest.
The auto buy will help you get everything through the fewest amount of sellers
possible.

Thanks firestar246. When the collection is completed I will definitely post pics.
I know a lot of people would love to see all the figures together. I guess I’ll
have a lot of sifting to do from the catalog to see which ones I own and which
I need to add to the wanted list.

And search the forum to know how to get the list without having to go through
each minifig one by one.  The question was raised a couple of times.

I’ve heard of something on the site called super lots. I’m wondering if bulk
lots of figs could be included in things like these? What exactly are super lots?

It’s not a bulk lot of “unidentified” items.  That would be a custom lot.

Superlots are a way for sellers to link lots.
Say, the seller absolutely wants you to buy both a right and left wing together.
If the seller makes a custom lot with the two parts, it will not be the using
the catalog entries, so they will be less easy to find by buyers.
With a superlot, they list the two separate parts in their shop but link them
into a superlot.  So they still use the catalog entries and can found easily
but the buyer can only buy both or none.

BUT

1. Sellers don’t use superlots much anymore.
The thing is, some people abused the feature: they made a superlot with high
demand items at a very low price and one of them at a high price (say, the 16
Collectible minifigures of a series, all at $0.01 but one at $999.99).  That
way they appeared cheap for most of the items.
So superlots are not included in searches by default anymore.

2. And even if you include superlots in your searches, I doubt someone has put
all the SW minifigs in a superlot, and even less in a custom lot.
SW minifigs sell very easily, so:
— Sellers will want the buyers to find theirs easily, so no custom lot.
— Forcing people to buy all of the ones you have in one superlot reduces the
number of potential buyers and the money you can make, so no superlot.

Your first step is to make your wanted list anyway

It is a bit of an irritant, that the option chosen doesn't carryover into
continued searches. Still, it's worth checking the Include Super Lots
box, in such searches

Would it be a good idea to ask around if anyone has a complete/near complete
set of all the Star Wars Minifigs?

I don't know about "good idea" but there are those (some known) that have
complete SW minifigure collections and frequent the forum here. It'd be a
Hail Mary shot, but not entirely without hope: Two collectors offered up their
collections over the same number of years. You make the call for yourself, whether
it's a good idea. Deep pockets required

Keep in mind, that the term "complete" for this type of collection, is somewhat
fluid as new minifigs come onto the market.

There are around 1200 Star Wars figs. Just a rough guess is about $8 per fig,
so be prepared to spend about $10,000 (plus probably another $10,000 for the
super rare ones).

It will take more work but I would suggest buying a bulk lot off of eBay.
There is a charity in Ontario that separates figures from bricks and then posts
them as bulk sales.
Normally they will sell about 5 pounds at a time. They even separate into themes.
Star Wars used to go for about $200 a pound. Now it has gone up a lot, so your
first purchase would likely be close to $1500.
Put the figures back together, keep the ones you don’t have, sell all the duplicates
and parts that don’t complete a figure. Take the money you earn back and buy
another lot and maybe a few of the rare figures off BL.
Continue to repeat and you will get there eventually with a much lower total
cost.

This method will take a lot of time and work to clean, sort, assemble, store,
sell, pick, package and ship.
It is way more work than you could possibly think starting out.
But if you like it, it can be fun.

Good luck

Edward

I've been collecting for about 18 months. I've taken a similar approach,
but buying bulk mostly off of FB, sometimes CL, but CL has been garbage if late.
I don't buy true bulk, but rather assorted lots of SW figs, typically 50
or more. I aim for 50% of avg of avg used price. I'm up to around 800 now
I think, and I've built myself a really nice inventory of around 700 figs
and 300 lots of only SW figs at appx $6k at sell price, along with averaging
$2k/month in sales, again, mostly SW figs. At some point I'll likely be one
to sell the entire collection when I've had enough of it, but not for some
time.

I don't mean to be rude, but based on what you were wanting to pay for Cloud
City figures, then I'd give up now. Instead, focus on getting one of each
variation of costume of characters you like.
