I checked here catalogs from 1969. It was advertised as both 4.5v and 12v supplemental
set. So I assume it never came with

Part No: 813a Name: Train Level Crossing Base - Solid Center
*
813a Train Level Crossing Base - Solid Center
Parts: Train

https://worldbricks.com/en/catalog-year/1960/catalogs-1969.html

I got one copy of this set with early version and it came with

Part No: 813 Name: Train Level Crossing Base
*
813 Train Level Crossing Base
Parts: Train
but I don't know the year of production of my copy.

In the Dutch catalog from 1971, I can see a photo of early-version box in which
we can clearly see

Part No: 813 Name: Train Level Crossing Base
*
813 Train Level Crossing Base
Parts: Train

https://worldbricks.com/en/catalog-year/1970/catalogs-1971/1971-lego-catalog-4-nl.html

It is possible the photo was taken and used in some catalogs from 1969 but I
don't have any catalog from 1969 and I checked those online but did not find
any catalogs available online.

Just found this on an auction site in the Netherlands!

I think TLG used the extra

Part No: 813a Name: Train Level Crossing Base - Solid Center
*
813a Train Level Crossing Base - Solid Center
Parts: Train
TLG never threw anything away but how this was sold in the Netherlands?
If it was UK, it would have made sense because no blue-era 12v train was sold
there.

This gives also a clue about the match id of

Part No: 813a Name: Train Level Crossing Base - Solid Center
*
813a Train Level Crossing Base - Solid Center
Parts: Train
for

Set No: 119 Name: Super Train Set
*
119-1 (Inv) Super Train Set
394 Parts, 1968
Sets: Train: 4.5V
It is very likely it was used in early 1969 for 119-1 too.

I was just about to add the same changes myself, when I saw your request.
Is this a recent Dutch Auction and were did you find it?
The 158 box is definately an opened box with a train track added.
So no proof that set 158 ever came with the old 813a.

Keep in mind, that many people know Bricklink and complete sets, based on Bricklink
Inventory. More and more reason to get those inventories correct.

This morning I viewed lots of sets 158 on the internet. I didn't find any
boxed sets with part 813a. I did find 2 different box types. Both only with parts
812 and 813 and both boxes show the same parts on the box-art. I've seen
catalog images, instruction- and box-art with old part variants, even when sets
were released with new part variants. I can't believe though that TLG did
it the other way around.

So I am going to approve your requests.

If someone, someday finds proof that this set ever came with the old 813a, we
can change the inventory, or make a new entry if the box indeed shows the old
variant.

The catalogue pictures show the old variant. Maybe TLG wanted to release 158
with the old variant, but changed their mind, because they released the 12V sets
in 1969 also. And you need the new Level Crossing Base to add 12V track.

I also discovered that parts 812 and 813 always came assembled in sets 158-1
and 119-1.
You might want to add the assembly to the catalog and change inventories after
approval.
If you don't want it, let me know, I'll do it myself as soon as I have
time.

In set 119 it even came assembled as a complete 158, but Imo we shouldn't
add that to the catalog, because a next step would be a complete assembled trains
for set 116 in 2/3 variants.

I didn't have time left to check if it also came assembled in sets 146, 7720
and 7834.

It is not a proof but based on my experience and the type of auction site (lots
are in general taken from family's belongings), AND the fact that this parts
were only used in 158 and 119 at that time, I believe in it. At least, we should
not remove the regular part.
I can send you the link in a private message if you wish.

This morning I viewed lots of sets 158 on the internet. I didn't find any
boxed sets with part 813a. I did find 2 different box types. Both only with parts
812 and 813 and both boxes show the same parts on the box-art.

As mentioned here,
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1330269

I have the first version of the box which shows

Part No: 813a Name: Train Level Crossing Base - Solid Center
*
813a Train Level Crossing Base - Solid Center
Parts: Train
on it.

The image of 813 and 812 inside the box is from a catalog in 1971 and not 1969.
TLG did take new photos of older items. For example see the blue motor and blue
battery box from this catalog (1969 UK)
https://images.brickset.com/library/Catalogues/c69uk1.pdf

  I've seen
catalog images, instruction- and box-art with old part variants, even when sets

Will do but do you have photos of new 119 or 158?

In 7834, it certainly didn't. I think it did not come assembled in 7720 neither.
Hard to know about 146 knowing its box is small.
