I do have a mint copy with box and instructions coming with this too. Based on
the sleepers in my copy, it looks to an early release.

There is another new copy with box opened, sold on Ebay. Photos attached.

Not all parts come in sealed bags.
This is another photo showing the same packing where the exact parts were not
in sealed bags.

Note that in this photo and the one on Ebay, the sleepers have grooves, showing
that they are productions of 1983-84.

  All images are from the set on Ebay or of your own set?
Where are the images of the second type?

Diana

Yes, I got confused which one is already in the inventory and which I am requesting
to add.

At the moment,

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
appears in all sets (for 7835 as alternate), from 1969 up to even 1991, while

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
appears only in 7835 (from 1985-90)
There is "a" variant but taking 949p01 as the "a" variant, it is likely some
changes are needed.
I bought 7760, 7834, 7815 and 7819 from Sweden. The seller also sold 7740 with
new sticker sheet. After the package was shipped, I asked how come 7760 and 7740
had new sticker sheets but the inner trays of 7740 and 7760 were gone (and if
they still have them). See below his message to me. The parts of 4 sets I bought
are in like-new condition. They look like the set was only built once.

Actually the Lego were not originally my own, but a friend of mine. Their dad
was big on Lego but they had fairly short interest as kids. So most of the Lego
was built once and then put away. Same thing a couple of years later with Technic,
though in that case they never even finished constructing a lot of them. I guess
half the fun for them was getting big boxes for presents...

They were a family with (much) better than average income, otherwise I would
struggle to understand why they kept buying more...

He did not remember details about packaging, but guessed they ripped it out when
unpacking the first time.

Now being grown up, at least he had the good sense to reach to me, since he knew
I had an interest in Lego, to ask what to do with it. I'll get some money
into the family Lego funds for my efforts and the Lego kits will go to places
where they are appreciated.

This is a nice story, but it's not of any help for your change request, which
is about road signs. We asked you if your set is new, mint and I asked you for
pictures of your own set. All we know now that your set is at least third hand.

And that you are saying now:
  Yes, I got confused which one is already in the inventory and which I am requesting
to add.

  There is "a" variant but taking 949p01 as the "a" variant, it is likely some
changes are needed.

Here you are confused again.
Maybe some changes are needed, but only with proof.

Like Jonas said: "we need a bit more evidence than just one used set before
we can accept these requests". But at the moment we have no evidence at all.
So I can't approve your request. If you want your evidence to be saved, please
add images of your mint boxed set with instruction that shows:

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

  Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 7834 Name: Level Crossing Manual
*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V

* Add 2 Part 649p01b White Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern (match ID 2)
* Change 2 Part White 649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 2}

The box art shows
[p=64901b]
I do have a mint copy with box and instructions coming with this too. Based on
the sleepers in my copy, it looks to an early release.

There is another new copy with box opened, sold on Ebay. Photos attached.

I identify this catalog

Catalog No: m83eutr Name: 1983 Mini Train European (EU 119983)
*
m83eutr 1983 Mini Train European (EU 119983)

*
4166 Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 with Cable Grooves
Parts: Train, Track

I only see 649p01 on your images, and these are not in sealed bags.

Not all parts come in sealed bags.
This is another photo showing the same packing where the exact parts were not
in sealed bags.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1329284

***

***

If you want your evidence to be saved, please
add images of your mint boxed set with instruction that shows:

repeat !!

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

Diana

I still think this request is correct.
I have a little bit more evidence and have taken photos of my copy.

Please add this evidence and photos of your copy

If we consider 649p01

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated

as the "b" variant (vs. undetermined), then most inventories including this road
sign are incorrect.
Shall we add the "b" variant or change undetermined to "b" variant?

Please add images of your mint boxed set with these road signs in it.
Please add images of the other little evidence you found.
Please add image of both road signs together that shows it's 64901b, and
if it's a embossed print or surface print.
Please add image of both road signs that shows bottom.

Diana

Diana

I have checked my spare collection of this part.
The embossed version comes in two types of bottom. I believe the bottom with
round bottom-stud is the later version. The variant

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
has two versions: one with round bottom-stud that comes with my 7834 that I bought
from Denmark. The other one has lined-shaped bottom-stud (or whatever you call
it) and I believe it is the earliest version. Both of these have embossed prints.
All

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
has lined-shaped bottom-stud are pad printed like minifigs.

We checked photos of few NIB copies. See attached photos 1-3 of a NIB from a
seller in France. Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with
[p=949p01]
This means that the earlies version probably came only in productions of 1980.
This makes it more rare for the following reason:
The set 7834-1 was released in 1980 but it was first released one year later
in UK, Italy and France. So we may only find an early released of 7834-1 in Germany,
Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland's and Scandinavian countries.

If we agree the thick-lined variant has two versions and one came happened after
the other, then the transition happened either for set

*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V
(in market between 1980-84)
But comes with two of them!

I have a friend with a huge collection who is very careful in variants of parts.
I asked him and this is what he wrote me:

Road signs-
7834- thick - mine, MIB I believe all original
7835- thin - I've had this set since new
4539- thin - mine, nice condition

I don't have any reason to believe any were swapped since the part is not
in a lot of sets. The thick line version is the older embossed style printing.
The thin is pad printed like a minifig. I suspect the thick version was only
on 7834, Lego fazed that method out in early 80's I think.

See photos 4-6 attached of his copies.

As a side note, the sleepers without cable groove

Part No: 767 Name: Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves
*
767 Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves

were produced between 1980-82.

from Denmark. The other one has lined-shaped bottom-stud (or whatever you call
it) and I believe it is the earliest version. Both of these have embossed prints.

To make it understandable I call it bar-bottom and tube-bottom.
The bar-bottom came first indeed, but ended up in sets for years.

  All

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
has lined-shaped bottom-stud are pad printed like minifigs.

Surface print came in 1980 at the latest. All 6306-1 road signs have surface
print. Unfortunately this set doesn't have a Level Crossing Road Sign.

We checked photos of few NIB copies. See attached photos 1-3 of a NIB from a
seller in France. Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with
[p=949p01]
This means that the earlies version probably came only in productions of 1980.

What do you exactly mean with the earliest version? Are you talking about?:
- 649p01 / 649p01b, or
- bar bottom / tube bottom, or
- embossed print / surface print

  This makes it more rare for the following reason:
The set 7834-1 was released in 1980 but it was first released one year later
in UK, Italy and France. So we may only find an early released of 7834-1 in Germany,
Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland's and Scandinavian countries.

two versions of 649p01b?

I studied all road signs I have in my collection:
- boxes 989, 939 (2x), 940, 6306 and 6315, all bought sealed
- my separate road sign collection

I thought I was almost finished making a time-line, but what you are saying confuses
me.
So would you please be so kind to answer my questions above and below?

I have a friend with a huge collection who is very careful in variants of parts.
I asked him and this is what he wrote me:

Road signs-
7834- thick - mine, MIB I believe all original
7835- thin - I've had this set since new
4539- thin - mine, nice condition

Please correct me if I understand you wrong:
- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

I can't see it clearly on your image, but the train road-signs of set 7835,
are these 649p06 or 649p06a? Also with Surface print and tube-bottom?

I don't have any reason to believe any were swapped since the part is not
in a lot of sets. The thick line version is the older embossed style printing.
The thin is pad printed like a minifig. I suspect the thick version was only
on 7834, Lego fazed that method out in early 80's I think.

The box art shows

I do have a mint copy with box and instructions coming with this too. Based on
the sleepers in my copy, it looks to an early release.

There is another new copy with box opened, sold on Ebay. Photos attached.

I identify this catalog

I only see 649p01 on your images, and these are not in sealed bags.

Not all parts come in sealed bags.
This is another photo showing the same packing where the exact parts were not
in sealed bags.

***

***

If you want your evidence to be saved, please
add images of your mint boxed set with instruction that shows:

repeat !!

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with
[p=949p01]
This means that the earlies version probably came only in productions of 1980.

What do you exactly mean with the earliest version? Are you talking about?:
- 649p01 / 649p01b, or
- bar bottom / tube bottom, or
- embossed print / surface print

I mean the set 7834 in 1980 came with
- 649p01b embossed print / tube-bottom
This set in 1981 came with
- 649p01 surface print / tube-bottom

  This makes it more rare for the following reason:
The set 7834-1 was released in 1980 but it was first released one year later
in UK, Italy and France. So we may only find an early released of 7834-1 in Germany,
Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland's and Scandinavian countries.

If we agree the thick-lined variant has two versions and one came happened after
the other, then the transition happened either for set

two versions of 649p01b?

Yes, one has bar-bottom and one has tube-bottom (probably more rare because it
was discontinued probably late-1980 or early-1981).

Set No: 939 Name: Flags, Trees and Road Signs
*
939-1 (Inv) Flags, Trees and Road Signs

Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental

or

Set No: 940 Name: Flags, Signs and Trees
*

19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental
(in market between 1972-79)
or for

Set No: 7834 Name: Level Crossing Manual
*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V
(in market between 1980-84)
But comes with two of them!

I have a friend with a huge collection who is very careful in variants of parts.
I asked him and this is what he wrote me:

Road signs-
7834- thick - mine, MIB I believe all original
7835- thin - I've had this set since new
4539- thin - mine, nice condition

Please correct me if I understand you wrong:
- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

The time-line of this road signs is something like thsi:
649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom (1972-197X)
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (197X-1980)
649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-"end of production of 4539")

So
- 989: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 939: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 940: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom

It is likely the late productions of 939 and 940 came with
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
because 939 was in market until the end of 1979.

- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (only in 1980)
- 7834: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-84)
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

I have seen

Part No: 649pb08b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
*
649pb08b Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. See photo attached.

If we agree with these, may I submit inv. change requests?

I can't see it clearly on your image, but the train road-signs of set 7835,
are these 649p06 or 649p06a? Also with Surface print and tube-bottom?

I don't have any reason to believe any were swapped since the part is not
in a lot of sets. The thick line version is the older embossed style printing.
The thin is pad printed like a minifig. I suspect the thick version was only
on 7834, Lego fazed that method out in early 80's I think.

See photos 4-6 attached of his copies.

This thread was about set 7834-1 and 649p01 versus 64901b.
I don't have any problems with you handling the sets 7834, 7835 and 4539.
But you can't make a timeline based on just two signs and 3 non-sealed sets
and submit requests for sets I have confirmed based on Sealed Set Contence.

I have been busy for 12 hours with sealed sets and a large collection of road
signs and I'm still not 100% sure about it all. So please give me some credit
and leave the other sets and roadsigns to me. I will make changes step by step
and leave comments.

- set 7834, I'm still not convinced that it came with 649p01b
Because all I have is an image of 2 non-sealed roadsigns (MIB, I believe all
original) and I am pretty sure all road signs came with Surface Print starting
1980. Your 649p01b have Embossed Print and I don't have and never saw a 649p01b
with surface print.
- set 4539, I agree, so the inventory is correct as it is
- set 7835, please answer my question below.

I can't see it clearly on your image, but the train road-signs of set 7835,

* Change 2 Part White 649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 2}

The box art shows
[p=64901b]

Parts: Train, Track

I only see 649p01 on your images, and these are not in sealed bags.

Not all parts come in sealed bags.
This is another photo showing the same packing where the exact parts were not
in sealed bags.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1329284

***

***

If you want your evidence to be saved, please
add images of your mint boxed set with instruction that shows:

repeat !!

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with
[p=949p01]

Set No: 939 Name: Flags, Trees and Road Signs
*
939-1 (Inv) Flags, Trees and Road Signs
19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental

or

Set No: 940 Name: Flags, Signs and Trees
*
940-1 (Inv) Flags, Signs and Trees
19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental
(in market between 1972-79)
or for

Set No: 7834 Name: Level Crossing Manual
*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V
(in market between 1980-84)
But comes with two of them!

I have a friend with a huge collection who is very careful in variants of parts.
I asked him and this is what he wrote me:

Road signs-
7834- thick - mine, MIB I believe all original
7835- thin - I've had this set since new
4539- thin - mine, nice condition

Please correct me if I understand you wrong:
- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

The time-line of this road signs is something like thsi:
649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom (1972-197X)
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (197X-1980)
649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-"end of production of 4539")

So
- 989: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 939: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 940: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom

It is likely the late productions of 939 and 940 came with
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
because 939 was in market until the end of 1979.

- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (only in 1980)
- 7834: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-84)
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

I have seen

Part No: 649pb08b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
*
649pb08b Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. See photo attached.

If we agree with these, may I submit inv. change requests?

This thread was about set 7834-1 and 649p01 versus 64901b.
I don't have any problems with you handling the sets 7834, 7835 and 4539.
But you can't make a timeline based on just two signs and 3 non-sealed sets
and submit requests for sets I have confirmed based on Sealed Set Contence.

I have been busy for 12 hours with sealed sets and a large collection of road
signs and I'm still not 100% sure about it all. So please give me some credit
and leave the other sets and roadsigns to me. I will make changes step by step
and leave comments.

I am just looking to correct inventories and not to take away credits from you.
As much as I wish Bricklink could pay something for each credit, it is nothing
but a number in some hidden page on Bricklink. It is kind of hidden because 99.9%
of users don't ever look or find this page.

My 7834 comes with two

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
embossed prints with tube-bottom.
If they are not original to my copy, where did they come from? They have bottom-tube
which means they are later variant of 649p01b. The box art shows the same part
(649p01b) which shows that at the time TLG took images and designed the box arts
and instructions, 649p01b was still available in their stock.
Otherwise, we should assume that the previous owner of my copy removed/lost the
two road signs, and replaced them with two other one from another set. Ok, so
from what set? 939 or 940? In that case, we should assume he had two later-production
copies of 939 (or 940), probably two copies 939 were of productions 1979, and
switched these road signs. Well, this is possible.
The issue here is that we are not likely to see many copies of 7834 that were
produced in 1980 because these were produced only since summer or mid-summer
of 1980 until the end of 1980 and only in few countries, so we expect maybe 5-10%
copies of 7834 that are out there come with 649p01b.

  - set 4539, I agree, so the inventory is correct as it is
- set 7835, please answer my question below.

Based on all time-lined I gave, we expect 7835 come only with 649p01 and the
photos show that too. As my friend mentioned, all 649p01 are pad printed and
his 4539 and 7834 also come with 649p01.
Note that his 7834 also come

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. I bet he has an early production. At least their sleepers don't
have groove which proves it is a production of 1980-82.

As a side note, the sleepers without cable groove

Part No: 767 Name: Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves
*
767 Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves

were produced between 1980-82.

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern

appears in all sets (for 7835 as alternate), from 1969 up to even 1991, while

649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern

appears only in 7835 (from 1985-90)
There is "a" variant but taking 949p01 as the "a" variant, it is likely some
changes are needed.
I bought 7760, 7834, 7815 and 7819 from Sweden. The seller also sold 7740 with
new sticker sheet. After the package was shipped, I asked how come 7760 and 7740

This is a nice story, but it's not of any help for your change request, which
is about road signs. We asked you if your set is new, mint and I asked you for
pictures of your own set. All we know now that your set is at least third hand.

And that you are saying now:
  Yes, I got confused which one is already in the inventory and which I am requesting
to add.

Here you are confused again.
Maybe some changes are needed, but only with proof.

Like Jonas said: "we need a bit more evidence than just one used set before
we can accept these requests". But at the moment we have no evidence at all.
So I can't approve your request. If you want your evidence to be saved, please
add images of your mint boxed set with instruction that shows:

repeat !!

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with
[p=949p01]

Set No: 939 Name: Flags, Trees and Road Signs
*
939-1 (Inv) Flags, Trees and Road Signs
19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental

or

Set No: 940 Name: Flags, Signs and Trees
*
940-1 (Inv) Flags, Signs and Trees
19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental
(in market between 1972-79)
or for

Set No: 7834 Name: Level Crossing Manual
*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V
(in market between 1980-84)
But comes with two of them!

I have a friend with a huge collection who is very careful in variants of parts.
I asked him and this is what he wrote me:

Road signs-
7834- thick - mine, MIB I believe all original
7835- thin - I've had this set since new
4539- thin - mine, nice condition

Please correct me if I understand you wrong:
- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

The time-line of this road signs is something like thsi:
649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom (1972-197X)
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (197X-1980)
649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-"end of production of 4539")

So
- 989: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 939: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 940: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom

It is likely the late productions of 939 and 940 came with
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
because 939 was in market until the end of 1979.

- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (only in 1980)
- 7834: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-84)
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

I have seen

Part No: 649pb08b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
*
649pb08b Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. See photo attached.

If we agree with these, may I submit inv. change requests?

This thread was about set 7834-1 and 649p01 versus 64901b.
I don't have any problems with you handling the sets 7834, 7835 and 4539.
But you can't make a timeline based on just two signs and 3 non-sealed sets
and submit requests for sets I have confirmed based on Sealed Set Contence.

I have been busy for 12 hours with sealed sets and a large collection of road
signs and I'm still not 100% sure about it all. So please give me some credit
and leave the other sets and roadsigns to me. I will make changes step by step
and leave comments.

I am just looking to correct inventories and not to take away credits from you.
As much as I wish Bricklink could pay something for each credit, it is nothing
but a number in some hidden page on Bricklink. It is kind of hidden because 99.9%
of users don't ever look or find this page.

I know you are and we appreciate it, but I was not talking about Bricklink Credits.

This is were you are wrong. Sign 649p01 came first. You can read about it in
the change requests I submitted. I still didn't get an answer about the train
sign in set 7835, so I submitted a change request for that set also.

Because I want to close this thread. So if you have any comments about 939, 940
or 7835, please give a reply in the thread about the specific set.

The reason I wanted to submit the requests myself is because based on your conclusions,
you wanted to remove old signs like 649p01 from sets (or change them to alternate),
although I already told you that these sets were confirmed based on Sealed Set
Contents. Besides that, there were more changes to be made, concerning old variants
versus new variants.

The inventories of 989-1, 939-1 and 940-1 are (when it comes to the oldest variants
as regular) correct the way it is now.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1332229

  Note that his 7834 also come

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. I bet he has an early production. At least their sleepers don't
have groove which proves it is a production of 1980-82.

As a side note, the sleepers without cable groove

Part No: 767 Name: Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves
*
767 Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves

were produced between 1980-82.

* Change 2 Part White 649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 2}

The box art shows
[p=64901b]

I only see 649p01 on your images, and these are not in sealed bags.

Not all parts come in sealed bags.
This is another photo showing the same packing where the exact parts were not
in sealed bags.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1329284

***

***

If you want your evidence to be saved, please
add images of your mint boxed set with instruction that shows:

repeat !!

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with
[p=949p01]

Set No: 939 Name: Flags, Trees and Road Signs
*
939-1 (Inv) Flags, Trees and Road Signs
19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental

or

Set No: 940 Name: Flags, Signs and Trees
*
940-1 (Inv) Flags, Signs and Trees
19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental
(in market between 1972-79)
or for

Set No: 7834 Name: Level Crossing Manual
*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V
(in market between 1980-84)
But comes with two of them!

I have a friend with a huge collection who is very careful in variants of parts.
I asked him and this is what he wrote me:

Road signs-
7834- thick - mine, MIB I believe all original
7835- thin - I've had this set since new
4539- thin - mine, nice condition

Please correct me if I understand you wrong:
- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

The time-line of this road signs is something like thsi:
649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom (1972-197X)
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (197X-1980)
649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-"end of production of 4539")

So
- 989: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 939: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 940: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom

It is likely the late productions of 939 and 940 came with
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
because 939 was in market until the end of 1979.

- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (only in 1980)
- 7834: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-84)
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

I have seen

Part No: 649pb08b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
*
649pb08b Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. See photo attached.

If we agree with these, may I submit inv. change requests?

This thread was about set 7834-1 and 649p01 versus 64901b.
I don't have any problems with you handling the sets 7834, 7835 and 4539.
But you can't make a timeline based on just two signs and 3 non-sealed sets
and submit requests for sets I have confirmed based on Sealed Set Contence.

I have been busy for 12 hours with sealed sets and a large collection of road

and leave the other sets and roadsigns to me. I will make changes step by step
and leave comments.

I am just looking to correct inventories and not to take away credits from you.

I know you are and we appreciate it, but I was not talking about Bricklink Credits.

Because all I have is an image of 2 non-sealed roadsigns (MIB, I believe all

1980. Your 649p01b have Embossed Print and I don't have and never saw a 649p01b
with surface print.

  - set 4539, I agree, so the inventory is correct as it is
- set 7835, please answer my question below.

Based on all time-lined I gave, we expect 7835 come only with 649p01 and the
photos show that too. As my friend mentioned, all 649p01 are pad printed and
his 4539 and 7834 also come with 649p01.

This is were you are wrong. Sign 649p01 came first. You can read about it in
the change requests I submitted. I still didn't get an answer about the train
sign in set 7835, so I submitted a change request for that set also.

If you mean an answer from me, I commented a couple of times that I believe 7835
only came

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
My friend commented the same thing as I added his message to me, and I uploaded
photo of his 7835 too that comes with 649p01 too. My own boxed used copy of 7835
come with 649p01 too.
What I find interesting is that the box art of 7835 shows 649p01b.

I don't have any photo of early versions of 939 and 940 and my conclusion
was just hypothetical about early production years of these sets. Thanks for
checking them and correct my mistake.

I commented that there are two used pristine copies of 7834 both coming with

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. So four copies of this part in total coming with these two
copies.
I didn't get any comment from you if this is good enough or not. If it is,
I would like to submit a change request for them again.

The chance of finding a NIB copy (NIB and not Sealed) of 7834 that was a production
of 1980 (and not 1981 or later) is very slim. So we may not find any proof. By
the way, even if there is an NIB copy coming with 649p01b, we may still argue
if those two road signs 649p01b inside the box are original or not.

The inventories of 989-1, 939-1 and 940-1 are (when it comes to the oldest variants
as regular) correct the way it is now.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1332229

  Note that his 7834 also come

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. I bet he has an early production. At least their sleepers don't
have groove which proves it is a production of 1980-82.

See photos 4-6 attached of his copies.

appears in all sets (for 7835 as alternate), from 1969 up to even 1991, while

***

***

If you want your evidence to be saved, please
add images of your mint boxed set with instruction that shows:

repeat !!

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with
[p=949p01]

Set No: 939 Name: Flags, Trees and Road Signs
*
939-1 (Inv) Flags, Trees and Road Signs
19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental

or

Set No: 940 Name: Flags, Signs and Trees
*
940-1 (Inv) Flags, Signs and Trees
19 Parts, 1973
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental
(in market between 1972-79)
or for

Set No: 7834 Name: Level Crossing Manual
*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V
(in market between 1980-84)
But comes with two of them!

I have a friend with a huge collection who is very careful in variants of parts.
I asked him and this is what he wrote me:

Road signs-
7834- thick - mine, MIB I believe all original
7835- thin - I've had this set since new
4539- thin - mine, nice condition

Please correct me if I understand you wrong:
- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

The time-line of this road signs is something like thsi:
649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom (1972-197X)
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (197X-1980)
649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-"end of production of 4539")

So
- 989: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 939: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom
- 940: 649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom

It is likely the late productions of 939 and 940 came with
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom
because 939 was in market until the end of 1979.

- 7834: 649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (only in 1980)
- 7834: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-84)
- 7835: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom
- 4539: 649p01, surface print, tube-bottom

I have seen

Part No: 649pb08b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
*
649pb08b Road Sign Triangle with Skidding Car Pattern (Car with no Tire on Back)
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
with tube-bottom. See photo attached.

If we agree with these, may I submit inv. change requests?

This thread was about set 7834-1 and 649p01 versus 64901b.
I don't have any problems with you handling the sets 7834, 7835 and 4539.
But you can't make a timeline based on just two signs and 3 non-sealed sets
and submit requests for sets I have confirmed based on Sealed Set Contence.

I have been busy for 12 hours with sealed sets and a large collection of road
signs and I'm still not 100% sure about it all. So please give me some credit
and leave the other sets and roadsigns to me. I will make changes step by step
and leave comments.

I am just looking to correct inventories and not to take away credits from you.
As much as I wish Bricklink could pay something for each credit, it is nothing
but a number in some hidden page on Bricklink. It is kind of hidden because 99.9%
of users don't ever look or find this page.

I know you are and we appreciate it, but I was not talking about Bricklink Credits.

- set 7834, I'm still not convinced that it came with 649p01b
Because all I have is an image of 2 non-sealed roadsigns (MIB, I believe all
original) and I am pretty sure all road signs came with Surface Print starting
1980. Your 649p01b have Embossed Print and I don't have and never saw a 649p01b
with surface print.

above was my comment

  - set 4539, I agree, so the inventory is correct as it is
- set 7835, please answer my question below.

another attempt to get an answer on the TRAIN road sign question

Based on all time-lined I gave, we expect 7835 come only with 649p01 and the
photos show that too. As my friend mentioned, all 649p01 are pad printed and
his 4539 and 7834 also come with 649p01.

This is were you are wrong. Sign 649p01 came first. You can read about it in
the change requests I submitted. I still didn't get an answer about the train
sign in set 7835, so I submitted a change request for that set also.

another attempt to get an answer on the TRAIN sign question

  If you mean an answer from me, I commented a couple of times that I believe 7835
only came

I asked you several times about the train sign, not the level crossing sign.
So you could submit a change request for set 7835. But I didn't get an answer.
So I submitted the change request for members to reply, for I want to be sure
which signs (both train and level crossing) actually came in set 7835, which
may be of any help for the level crossing sign you want to add to set 7834.
If you want to answer my question now, please use the thread with the 7835-1
change request.

You did get my comment, see above.
It could be that these old signs came in this set as leftovers, but box images
are not considered as proof. If this sign 649p01b really came in set 7834 (1980)
and even in set 7835 (1985) it would be the only Embossed Sign that came in the
80's. This is the reason I want solid proof.

You said before that not all parts came in sealed bags. Imo small parts like
Road Signs always came in sealed bags (except for the early road sign boxes).
That the chance to find a 1980 set with sealed bags is small, shouldn't be
a reason to add this sign based on non sealed bags.

So, I'm not saying it didn't come in this set, but I would like to see
more proof that it did. I messaged the member that added this sign to set 7835
back in 2011. If there's solid proof that it came in 7835, this would help.
But it could be added, because the sign just didn't come in any set at the
time: it was just added to the catalog in 2011, just before it was added to the
inventory of set 7835.

So, if we get more proof, I will let you know and you can submit a new change
request with all arguments, comments ...

For me this thread is closed.
Please use the 7835-1 thread if you have any comments for that set.

To be honest, asking again and again for images and repeating other questions
and comments again and again, takes a lot of time. So for future requests please
consider this. For threads like this one are very hard to follow / understand
with all these repeating replies. So I am very sorry, but I won't give replies
anymore to this thread.

Please wait for an answer on the 649p01b sign in set 7834.
I will let you know if you can submit a new change request or not by message.

I can't see it clearly on your image, but the train road-signs of set 7835,
are these 649p06 or 649p06a? Also with Surface print and tube-bottom?

Above my question about the train signs

I don't have any reason to believe any were swapped since the part is not
in a lot of sets. The thick line version is the older embossed style printing.
The thin is pad printed like a minifig. I suspect the thick version was only
on 7834, Lego fazed that method out in early 80's I think.

See photos 4-6 attached of his copies.

As a side note, the sleepers without cable groove

Part No: 767 Name: Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves
*
767 Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves
Parts: Train, Track
were produced between 1980-82.

I have photos of few NIB 7834s in all of which the road signs are loose in the

Note that they are all productions of 1981 or later, based on the catalog inside
the box and/or sleepers with cable groove (produced since 1983).

That the chance to find a 1980 set with sealed bags is small, shouldn't be

Do you have a photo of a new 7834 in which road signs are included in a sealed
bag? If so, please upload it.

I have photos of few NIB 7834s in all of which the road signs are loose in the
box, not in any bag. I upload them all.

Note that they are all productions of 1981 or later, based on the catalog inside
the box and/or sleepers with cable groove (produced since 1983).

This is the fifth NIB copy (from 1982) in which the road signs are not visible
but they are not inside the two sealed bags.

*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

I have explained the whole situation with these roadsigns multiple times. Here
they are again:

1)
I mean the set 7834 in 1980 came with
- 649p01b embossed print / tube-bottom
This set in 1981 came with
- 649p01 surface print / tube-bottom

The time-line of this road signs is something like thsi:
649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom (1972-197X)
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (197X-1980)
649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-"end of production of 4539")

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1332036

2)
We checked photos of few NIB copies. See attached photos 1-3 of a NIB
from a
seller in France. Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
This means that the earlies version probably came only in productions of 1980.
This makes it more rare for the following reason:
The set 7834-1 was released in 1980 but it was first released one year later
in UK, Italy and France. So we may only find an early released of 7834-1 in Germany,
Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland's and Scandinavian countries.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1331744

3)
The issue here is that we are not likely to see many copies of 7834 that were
produced in 1980 because these were produced only since summer or mid-summer
of 1980 until the end of 1980 and only in few countries, so we expect maybe 5-10%
copies of 7834 that are out there come with 649p01b.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1332094

so the road signs came with embossed print in 1980 too.

4)
I have photos of few NIB 7834s in all of which the road signs are loose in

box, not in any bag. I upload them all.

Note that they are all productions of 1981 or later, based on the catalog inside

You had read and understood them for sure, however you still try to make my comments
look like they are not reliable and they contradicts each other.

So again, for anybody who may read this:

The roadsigns had embossed prints until the end of 1980. Based on everything
we know, the roadsigns were with surface print since 1981 so we expect all copies
of 7834 that were produced in 1981 or later came with roadsigns with surface
prints.
I attached photos of 5 NIB copies. They all come with

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
Because they are from 1981 or 1982 (or later).
If we find 500 NIB copies that are all produced in 1981 or later, they all come
with

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
too. (except the transition time that could have happened early 1981 or so, so
maybe few productions in 1981 come with 649p01a with embossed prints) That would
not contradicts or proves anything about those copies of 7834 produced in 1980
because 7834 came in its first year of release (1980) with

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated

This claims are backed-up by the fact that 7 roadsigns were FIRST produced in
1980. and I have already 4 of them in my collection with embossed print.
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1332859

It appears you are upset and very defensive to accept you might be incorrect
to refuse this request to add 649p01a in the regular section. You claimed (and
indeed created) that the roadsigns should come in sealed bags (that CANNOT happen
and you already know this, because they never came in sealed bags in any copy
of 7834, as far as we know) yet, when I asked you to upload one single photo
of 7834 in which the roadsigns are in a sealed bag, you ignore the message and
left this comment:
and none of these 5 boxes show the roadsigns you wanted to add:

to make it look like my comments contradicts each other. But they do not as explained
in my previous posts and also above.

If you desire to make my comments look unreliable and incomplete, you should
try harder and I think you will fail anyway in this case, because this set actually
came with

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
. I have spent few years gathering photos, checking photos of tens of copies
for all train sets from 80s and 70s (and other sets) and I naturally reply to
any comment of yours such as this one.
I find your criteria that "you accept to add 649p01a to 7834 only if you see
them in a sealed bag" strange, because you know they never came in a sealed bag
so any new 7834 that is opened would not have these roadsigns in a sealed bag
and if you did not know this, why did you write this criteria at the very first
place?
Let's not forget that about 10-20% of all productions of this set are produced
in 1980 (the rest in 1981-84).

I have more inventory change requests concerning other parts such as black

Part No: 3404ac02 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base
*
3404ac02 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base
Parts: Turntable
but my concern is that once I submit a request to add one of them as alternate,
then

Part No: 3404ac01 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
*
3404ac01 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
Parts: Turntable
may get removed from regular section or since 3404ac02 came in maybe 10% of all
productions in one set and they did not come in a sealed bag, they may get rejected
(for which you will have ways more reasons to reject than this request for 7834
as these turntables are very rare, and there is certainly a huge lack of evidence).

  Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 7834 Name: Level Crossing Manual
*
7834-1 (Inv) Level Crossing Manual
87 Parts, 1 Minifigure, 1980
Sets: Train: 12V

* Add 2 Part 649p01b White Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern (match ID 2)
* Change 2 Part White 649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 2}

The box art shows
[p=64901b]
I do have a mint copy with box and instructions coming with this too. Based on
the sleepers in my copy, it looks to an early release.

There is another new copy with box opened, sold on Ebay. Photos attached.

Like Diana said the set on Ebay has

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
which is already included in the inventory and we have proof for that variant
from an earlier request:
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=232389

You know box images don't always show the correct variant.
And since there is also no clear timeline for 649p01/649p01b (the later set 7835
came with both of them) we need a bit more evidence than just one used set before
we can accept these requests. Or does "mint" means your set is still new?
