I have a 96L electric wire, new in original piece of tape, that I cannot find
in the catalog.

It is similar to

Part No: 766c96 Name: Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 2 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Squared Narrow Long with Center Post (x466c96 / 766c01)
*
766c96 (Inv) Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 96 Studs Long with 2 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Squared Narrow Long with Center Post (x466c96 / 766c01)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
but 1 of the connectors is of a smaller kind.

Is this a sort of variation or am I looking at the wrong place?

See my won made picture regarding the electric wire.

Thanks in advance!
Ton.

It could be that a connector was changed on yours or the catalog pictured one
at some point. Also lego could have made them with 1 long and 1 short connector.
Just hard to verify when not sealed in a bag. The catalog only shows the short
on a 28L wire

Thanks for your response.
All I can say and see it was never used, I cannot see any traces of screwing
and unscrewing on the connectors.
I think it is best to put it into the inventory with my own picture and description
regarding this part.

Hi Ton,

I have been working on wires and connectors that TLG produced between 1965-2000...
There are still lots of work need to be done.
There is a road map project 15 too:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2476

I have bought many 12v collections, and have checked some dacta sets too.
How did you get or find this wire-connector assembly? Does it come with a 12v
train collection or a dacta set.
The smaller connector is this

*
2776c01 (Inv) Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Squared Narrow Short
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
It was first released in 1986 for the second version of 7745.

It is possible that this connector was changed with

Hi,

I had this part from set 8054 from 1989.
So not from a Dacta set but from a 4,5 Volt technic set, complete with motor,
switch, batterybox etc.
I think the connector wasn’t changed due to the fact the set was new, unused,
the wires still taped, no marks from screwing or unscrewing.
The box was sealed but torn, so, although unlikely, it could be tampered with.
