A few of my older bricks such as my 2x2's and 1x4's have this odd dot
on the side of the brick.

It is on the centre side of the brick and I have tried to wash it off with no
avail. I am wondering what it is or how I can fix it.

My recent elements have no such issue.

I think you are reffering to molding marks from when the brick was made. If I'm
not mistaken they were more visible on older bricks.

Recent bricks have the injection point on top of a stud.
Really old bricks were injected on a side.
