| I have a question to sellers on Bricklink.
How often, over the course of a year, do poor quality parts sell in your store?
Here are just a few examples:
- Heavily yellowed bricks or plates
- Bricks with heavy scratches or significant bite marks
- Minifigures with cracked torsos, cracks in the arms and/or broken helmets
Usually parts like these are sold at great discounts, but I wonder if anyone
would even want them, let alone buy them.
For me, I throw out parts like this once I get a replacement in better condition.
I certainly wouldn’t buy anything like this even at a big discount.
Thoughts?

I've heard that parts like that are sought after by some of those designing
military-themed or post-apocalyptic dioramas, but obviously that is a small
minority of buyers here on BrickLink and they are not hard to make yourself.
I have seen some sellers have a bulk lot of damaged parts listed for a dollar
or something small like that in case anyone wants them but generally people do
not want to buy damaged parts even for a dollar.

Generally I also throw these out but I’d assume not
| - Bricks with heavy scratches or significant bite marks
|
If you mentioned the scratching it will still sell but massive bite marks I throw
out but small ones as long you mention it it will often sell
| - Minifigures with cracked torsos, cracks in the arms and/or broken helmets
|
Cracked torsos and arms (when attaches on torsos) sell well (when mentioned).
Broken pieces shouldn’t be listed.

I sell these in bulk lots of a pound or more, but not on BL. You need multiple
high quality photos for these types of listings and BL doesn't easily accommodate
that.
| - Minifigures with cracked torsos, cracks in the arms and/or broken helmets
|
If it was a rare torso, I would list it with a good description. Cracked arms
I would try to replace.

People buy them. I was surprised at that but they do.

| I list all mine, scratched, yellowed, marked, bite marks, etc. Someone always
buys them, eventually. People use them for filler and the like, I assume.
I've got a couple pounds (2 1-gal ziplocks' worth), and I think I'll
list them right now.

Haven't tried cracked torsos or helmets, but we'll sell damaged/discolored
bricks and plates as "filler" pieces for a discount and they sell fast. If you
do, just be sure to make it clear in the description as to what they are.

Have you had buyers that missed to see the description and expected very good
condition and then left bad feedback?
Worse, did you have any buyer who was aware of the condition of parts he ordered,
but still left a bad feedback?

Yes, I've had buyers complain about the condition of parts received. It's
easy to miss the comments if you use Easy Buy. I now label any damaged parts
in a separate baggie: PLAY WEAR so they have a clue that something is up if they
were previously unaware. Most are very understanding once the Comments are pointed
out to them politely.

Yes, but just once. Since I sell lots of play-worn parts, I think it has still
worked out in my favor.
That being said, my play-worn parts are still good... just not shiny anymore.
Cracked, bitten, and worn-out parts get tossed except for bricks, tiles, and
minifig parts. I list those only in bulk for filler.

| Inexpensive (usually city) cracked torsos, I generally throw out, but people
will buy cracked torsos from themes like Star Wars or Lord of the Ring in particular
if the prints are good at about 75% of lowest "good" listing in my experience.
I'm assuming for display. Same with slight nicks and scratches.
Old scratched or nicked in parts from 90s pirates sets or 80s space also sell
well.

| Badly chewed parts get throw out. Yellowed parts I bag up and sell on ebay noting
they are old and yellowed. Cracked minifig parts get bagged by age / type and
sold on ebay. A couple of months back I sold probably 50 or so vintage forestmen
and castle soldiers. All had issues, mainly torso side cracks or arm cracks and
missing hats obviously described fairly. They went for a nice price. If a torso
is cracked by arms are good, I swap with a good torso with bad arms.
I wouldn't sell cracked stuff here though. Much easier on ebay where it is
easy to describe faults fairly.

| I tend to throw away bad parts so that nobody else will have the misfortune of
getting them.
I wish there was some sort of grading scale. "Used" means everything from like
new to chewed up and worthless.

"Used", without any description, does not include heavily damaged parts.
Getting some sellers to follow that, however....

It shouldn't on BL. The rule (if the seller follows the rules) is ...
Used Parts - Parts which have been previously used and are presumably still in
good, usable condition. If the parts show excessive wear, discoloration, excessive
scratches, other marks, etc. this should be noted in the *Comments* field. Sticker
sheets missing stickers must be listed as Used.

| I do list some pieces that have bite marks/slight damamge and or yellowing and
always mention that condition with a note. Some older rarer pieces that are
hard to come by can often be sold even if they have some imperfections.
When a buyer buys a piece with a note attached I always confirm that they have
seen the note since it is sometimes quite hidden from the buyer and I don't
want them to be surprised or disappointed. This has always worked well for me.
Sometimes I have buyers who are trying to complete a childhood set that is already
well bitten and sun damaged and they are just looking to have all the pieces.
So there is definitely a market for these pieces, but definitely it takes time
to mention it in notes and communicate well with your buyers.

I usually sell damaged minifigure parts (unless they are less than 0.10), almost
all damaged bricks, and any part that is expensive. Otherwise most other things
get tossed into a damaged bag.
