Hi all, I want to watch a specific store for a specific item. I would like to
get a notification when they add the item. Is this possible? For example, I currently
want to know when Sunshinebricks adds more black elephant trunks.

I've googled and tried all the obvious stuff but I can't find a way to
restrict wanted list notifications to specific stores.

Why do I want this? To find old versions of parts that are useful to me. Some
stores specialize in recycling old bricks.

High volume used parts stores often add items in a rotation. Bricksy (Germany,
"up to 75% off") and Sunshinebricks (Florida) work like this. They sort used
bricks by category and add items in groups by category. For example, all colors
of 2x4 plates will get added together on the same day. But 2x4 plates might only
get added/sorted a few times each year.

If I want a specific part from one of these stores, I have to keep checking all
year to know when they add that category/part. Can BL notify me when a specific
item is added at a specific store?

Thanks!

You can put the item on a Wanted List, and get notified. But not for a specific
store. However, you might be able to filter the email notifications by your Mail
Program to filter out all except the store you want.

Good luck!

Wow! That's a super hack! I love it! But so terribly inefficient. I might
try it! Thank you Paul!

I assume you’re referring to the Floridian store SunshineBrick (singular) and
not “Sunshinebricks” plural? It’s often in the details, Brice.

Have you added the store to your favorite list and Bookmarked?

I have not. Yes Sunshinebrick by Fransbricks, store name singular.

I will turn on announcements and see if Fransbricks and bricksy-75% announce
their additions by categories.

Thanks popsicle!

Ok I gotta know. What are you building???

WIP! (Long amswer!)

I enjoy finding new ways to attach parts. Illegally of course. Everything I do
is "illegal". I search for organic forms that aren't "pixelated". If I want
a spherical form I don't brick build it out of plates & blocks. I want the
form to flow from the bricks. I try to follow the bricks wherever they lead me.
My tablescrap builds showcase the bricks themselves and don't usually represent
a creative vision or a real world item. Usually I don't have a goal in mind.
I just explore the "parts combination space" to see what's out there. The
modules I discover will sometimes become parts of larger works that grow organically.
Currently I'm reconstructing a spaceship for a 6228* dolphin, inspired by
Lego artist Cole Blaq's dolphin junkie:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/coleblaq/7563809140

Back to elephant trunks. My style often requires creative engineering to get
the main parts into the positions I want them. Currently I'm working on using
Bionicle Bohrok Windscreens (41671) as flower petals. Lots of ways to do it.
One way uses elephant trunks as levers to apply pressure on voodoo balls. The
balls press inwards and jam the 41671 liftarms into place. Six voodoo balls plus
6x 41671 equals a flower that reminds me of a peony. Beautiful! But making it
work with good symmetry requires all the elephant trunks to be perfectly identical.
And some jamming methods work better with specific mold variants.

Anyhow, elephant trunks have changed a few times over the years. The earliest
parts (43892) don't even say Lego on them, just the mold position numbers.
The new version (28959) says both the part id and Lego. There is also a middle
version (near the 2014 transition?) which says Lego but has no part id. The stud
tip of the old version bends back several degrees, while the new stud tip is
perfectly parallel to the base. This small difference makes a difference in some
builds of my bohrok peony.

All the versions have major QC issues because the part is solid. After molding,
they tend to warp a little while cooling. Unfortunately the old black 43892 (3
or 4 sets) are swamped by the new 28959 (10 or 11 sets). I tried buying from
a Polish store that does both new & used parts dirt cheap. Out of 200 trunks
I got one! 43892 (they were only 0.05USD each so no biggie).

The black 43892 I currently own seem to have come from Sunshinebrick. When searching
for old variants I often look for unique colors from the early years. If a store
has lots of the colors unique to those years, then there's a good chance
they might have the old version of the color that comes in both versions. Sunshinebrick
(had) a lot of those colors, but I just bought most of them.

I've decided to try ochrejelly's dying technique. I think it can be made
easier and more reliable by separating the acetone step from the dyeing step,
and moving parts back & forth between dye and diluted acetone. The old 43892
trunks come in 4 colors that are unique or nearly unique: dk blue, tan, and two
shades of "orange". So it's easy to buy those. Then I can dye them black,
which is the easiest color for dyeing. Fortunately black is my primary color
when building lego.

Fwiw, old parts often have features that are "in system" more that new parts.
Lego is currently putting a lot of design effort into eliminating illegal ("troublesome")
connections. They are constantly revising molds to tweak dimensions just enough
to eliminate clutch in illegal positions. Back in the early days, almost every
feature of every part was somehow related to system dimensions. For example,
look at sword 59. The pommel is an actual stud, sideways, and will fit anywhere
a stud will fit with the proper clutch. A later sword (43887) has clips for guards
and a regular stud for a pommel. The guards on 59 are also functional: the ball
tips are bar sized and will fit inside hollow studs just like any other bar size
ball (like the tips of whip antennas). These days a lot of minifig utensils have
features that are almost studs but intentionally not, and part diameters are
carefully chosen to avoid fitting with system features of other parts. Even inaccessible
features used to be "in system". For example, you can snap an old wrench (4006)
onto the axle of this old string reel (4208).

Welcome to my world!
