Nothing wrong here. You did good. That's just the buyer's pride talking,
as he's the one in the wrong.

Maybe not much more after the sale. Prior to the sale however, perhaps go beyond
mere reference to a listing photo to offering more, by mentioning the “grains
of sand” A phrase btw, that was repeated three times in your exchange, and an
obvious issue from both of your perspectives.

Were it me, given the item’s condition, low cost and correspondence, I might’ve
refunded and told the buyer not to further trouble themselves in sending it back,
to keep it. Not saying it’s the correct thing to do, by any means, just how I
might’ve rolled on that particular transaction.

A very civil and polite exchange between you two, in any case.

I agree, it would have been good to mention the sand. The picture was really
good at showing the condition of the stickers but the sand in the picture could
be also seen as just some dirt and by looking at the picture the buyer really
couldn't have known that there was sand under some of the stickers. Mentioning
the sand probably would have negated any problems with the buyer and even if
it didn't you could at least be sure that you did all that you could have
done.

As a side note, I think I would leave a positive feedback even if he does not
leave feedback. It may help to your customer to feel better about the transaction.
Also, a small coupon to him may win you over a customer for the long term.

Very interesting thread, but I have a question. When sticker adhesive is exposed,
dust particles stick, it eventually becomes discolored and looks dirty. You then
have to rub it off and either there is still enough adhesive left or you need
a glue stick. So, why does the distinction between dirt and sand or whatever
else is there matter?

If you created another store where you sell used and or low condition stuff you
could have done better but wait that's not possible so you did nothing wrong...

Customers keeping it simple, platforms adapting or vice versa makes it hard to
sell low condition stuff... An extra bit of information (as a sub field of condition)
signifying low quality in the inventory could have helped this. Buyer could be
forced to read the description and/or see the actual picture before purchasing
if that bit is set.

Your customer probably purchased the sticker sheet from his wanted list. Custom
image doesn't show in the Wanted List, description also doesn't show.

Purchasing through wanted list brings up an item that is missing stickers...
That same bit would have prevented a user buying this too..

Description does show on checkout, I believe custom image does as well (not 100%
certain of this however).

You did absolutely nothing wrong

The item was listed with an actual photo of the item for sale

The vast majority of parts for sale on BL do NOT have a picture of the actual
part for sale

You went beyond

If the buyer did not check that but merely read the description, the buyer is
in the wrong

It's as simple as that

Also, you're a stickler for LEGO accuracy. I'd buy anythiug from you
based on a pic you've provided

No feedabck from the buyer? = No feedback left for the buyer

Cheers,

Ole

Obviously something was done wrong. Unless you want to blame the site or member
that wrote this?

"thank you for your reply. I don't expect anything from you. I will not

How was the buyer to see the sand underneath the stickers? Incidentally, where
sand would be problematic for stickers

The vast majority of parts for sale on BL do NOT have a picture of the actual
part for sale

True. But as we sellers know, with some items a few words added to the description
is called for. Personally, we run quite a few custom photos in listings (always
have) but nearly always add details to the item description. Listing photos with
their file-size restrictions, sometimes just aren't good enough, imho.

You went beyond

If the buyer did not check that but merely read the description, the buyer is in the wrong

This guy?

"I admit being a little disappointed: the stickers are in fair condition.
There are grains of sand under some of them ..."

It's as simple as that

Transactions between individuals are rarely "simple"

Also, you're a stickler for LEGO accuracy. I'd buy anythiug from you

And how was the buyer to know of this trait in the seller?

No feedabck from the buyer? = No feedback left for the buyer

I'd leave glowing feedback for this member, if only for their understanding
and superb comms.

Cheers,

Ole

But hey, that's what makes the world that much more vibrant, our divergent
perspectives

There is nothing you can do to protect yourself from buyers not reading or understanding
that you are listing a damaged part other than not to sell damaged parts.

My only neutral came from a buyer who purchased parts marked for knicks and scratches
and was obviously not happy with them.

That being said, I have sold thousands of parts marked Play Wear and priced accordingly
and had very few complaints. I think there is definitely a market for these types
of parts here on BrickLink, and I think it all balances out in the end. Getting
no feedback for your transactions seems like the best outcome you could hope
for in this instance. Just move on and keep doing what you are doing!

Personally, I would have translated “état moyen” into, at most, “average state,”
not “fair.”

“Moyen + déçu” / “average + disappointed” = less than fair.

Thanks for providing your comments.
I don't know if there were sands or just dirts. I do not remember and probably
could not easily know which one it was without pealing off stickers.

As a buyer, if I check the photo uploaded, I could have seen some stickers are
dirty otherwise why there are black marks on the sheet?!
So if the buyer checked the photo, I am surprised he expected the stickers to
be in mint condition.
And if he did not check the photos, then I should not be blamed.
I have two sticker sheets of 7745 for sale:

Part No: 7745stk01 Name: Sticker Sheet for Set 7745 - (196955)
*
7745stk01 Sticker Sheet for Set 7745 - (196955)
Parts: Sticker Sheet

Do I have to add extra comments such as
"Few stickers are lightly folded/bent/damaged"
"Few stickers are dirty"
"Few stickers were previously used"
?
I think all of this is visible in the photo.

The buyer did not give any answer to my question "how could I have done better"?
That leaves me to think he is trying to blame me rather than himself for not
carefully checking the photo.

I think it is a good idea to put such comments to jake it clearer that they are
dirty.

^^ Yes, this. Speaking only for myself I'm more apt to read the description
than inspect the photo. And my eyes aren't great any more - I might not pick
up even an obvious flaw from a photo.

So you can request more information (prior purchase) from seller if you don't
find photo(s) good enough.

Bonjour XXXX,

j'ai reçu aujourd'hui la planche d'autocollants. merci.

J'avoue être un peu déçu : les autocollants sont en état moyen. Il y a des
grains de sable sous certains d'entre eux...

Cordialement,

Translation in English:
Hello XXXX,

today i received the sticker sheet. thank you.

I admit being a little disappointed: the stickers are in fair condition. There
are grains of sand under some of them ...

Cordially,

My response:
Bonjour XXXXXXX,

English translation:
Hello XXXXXXX,

I'm sorry, but did you verify the photo I took and upload for this item?
We can see grains of sand in the photo. You can still verify the photo if you
open the page for that order.
Other than taking a picture of this sticker sheet, how could I have done better?

Sincerely,
XXXX

Buyer's response:

Bonjour XXXX,

merci pour votre réponse. Je n'attends rien de vous.
Je ne laisserai pas d'appréciation sur BL. Je voulais juste vous informer
que j'étais un peu déçu. Je n'avais pas vu les grains e sable...
Bien cordialement,

XXXXXXX

English translation:
Hello XXXX,

thank you for your reply. I don't expect anything from you.
I will not leave feedback on BL. I just wanted to let you know that I was a little
disappointed. I had not seen the grains of sand ...
Best regards,

XXXXXXX

I think it is a good idea to put such comments to jake it clearer that they are
dirty.

Well yes but what about processing time?
I already have about $50-100k of parts not listed for sale because I don't
have time to do it.
Among them, I have many stickered parts and some of them are not perfect but
very rare. Some parts are rare and broken but functional and useful.
We can only keep things practical.

You can use generic descriptions if you have a photo:

- One/some/many stickers are missing
- Adhesive for numerous stickers is dirty
- Some stickers have no adhesive

Also:

See photo of actual item (had this in your description)
Please message me for additional/higher resolution photos.

If you have time to take and upload a photo of a rare part, then surely you have
time to add a couple of words. Or if not, accept that you will get complaints.

Especially if a part is rare, and there is only one listed, then the buyer might
not know you have used a custom image.

Most lots on BL used stock photos with a description if there is damage. If you
deviate from that, buyers need to be told.

A photograph by itself is not sufficient as a description of condition when listing
an item.

The items for sale listing policy states: "If the parts show excessive wear,
discoloration, excessive scratches, other marks, etc. this should be noted in
the *Comments* field. Sticker sheets missing stickers must be listed as Used."

I see a number of listings that instead of describing condition issues, point
the buyer to a photo, or even to their store's terms page. I don't find
these to be particularly helpful. I've looked at photos and wondered, what
exactly the seller wanted me to notice.

A photo should be ancillary to a description in the comments field.

Part of the problem/issue, is that BL trades worldwide. There is no way you could
have provided mention of the sand is every possible language. If the picture
doesn't tell the story, then you could mention it in one or two languages,
and leave it up to the buyer to do a translation.

Part of this is that there is not standard way on BL of marking items with a
condition, other than New/Used. There needs to be a condition that goes beyond
New vs Used.

At least one other platform does provide a condition qualifier.
