Hi Tanja,
We had a customer report the issue to us too but we do not use the handling fee
setting at all in any of our shipping methods. We do have a manual invoice option,
we asked our customer to try checking out with this and the order processed without
issue. So it seems the issue is within the instant checkout procedure but not
limited to handling fee.
Hope this helps!

We have definitely seen a slowdown in orders, but have still had a few come in,
all with Instant checkout. We also have not had anyone complain to us about not
being able to checkout.
To everyone complaining, yes it's rough, but we can't see the whole problem
on our side. Everyday that this isn't getting fixed is causing bricklink
to lose who knows how much $$$ from fees. I'm sure they're just as eager
to fix this and if its going to take until monday, there must be a legitimate
reason.

What? MONDAY? That's 3 days for getting this EXPECTED to be fixed!?
2022 almost it says on my calendar.
I don't know what triggered these errors and also have no idea what needs
to be fixed and what effort this will take. But on a global site, this repair
window isn't what we expected....

Who had the great idea to update the website without proper testing at this time

Solution on Monday ? Again unacceptable.
A blunder, bad customer service response and even worst solution.

Oh yes. I've been in the software industry (in a former life), I've seen
the damage, and I know what it's like to pull an all nighter to solve something
that had to be solved right now. I don't know what the back story
is with the BL development team, why problems are leaking into production, and
why they don't get resolved promptly. At the end of the day, it may cause
sellers to begin drifting to other platforms. Please don't take this as a
threat, because it's not. It's a statement of fact. Focus on stabilizing
the platform. New features can wait, broken software cannot.

Hi Tanja,
As others have said, keeping such an impacting issue alive over one of the busiest
weekends of the year is.. well, frustrating and hard to understand. Especially
because it was reported on Friday well before the US working day started. Both
on the forum and in tickets to the helpdesk. Or should we report it in another
way?
We have several reports of customers that cannot checkout, and we can help them
doing it all manually (spending lots of extra time). And we will manage. But
we also know that, when 5 customers contact you, at least 20 others just walked
away. You can see it also in messages that others post. We have way less orders
that one would normally have. People cannot buy their Lego parts.
The workaround you proposed doesn't work for me. The weight band seems broken,
because it will always present the first weigh band, no matter what weight the
order is. Even with the handling fee removed. Then, still, customers get the
System Problem.
Also, I wonder how many IC enabled stores can work with just 2 shipping methods.
We cannot, especially not when weight band is not working.
On behalf of all impacted sellers, I ask you to step up the importance of this
issue. It should be P1.
Thank you.

| I fully agree with kaat, store owners are losing orders.
More importantly (some) customers will lose their trust in BrickLink. I also
think as kaat mentions most customers will not even bother contacting if something
is broken, they will just buy their bricks some where else.
Changes in source should be done on for example on Wednesday early morning, with
a rollback plan at hand. Also better testing is needed, its not the first time
we have issues. Maybe inform us before hand before doing changes, some of us
might gladly help testing in production. Or even make part of the code open source
on GitHub or something.

I made that option but I have no way to look. It says I can't buy from myself.
I have had a couple of orders but also a couple of people who told me it will
not let them order. The one guy who can't buy is the one that is forced to
do the manual invoice so it seems like its backwards for me.

I'm also a "high level IT guy" - infrastructure architecture consultant in

I don't think that is true, but not in a good way. LEGO's website frequently
fails when new sets are released or VIP promos go live. They sell stock they
cannot fulfill, suggesting a time delay between actual and website inventory.

Well, it isn't necessarily a guaranteed way to screw things up beyond all

that properly. I sometimes feel like I fell into the wrong areas in IT; my customers

I also work in IT and I can tell you that if an error creeps into a production
environment, you roll back to the previous working situation. That is part of
basic change management. However, if you cannot roll back, then you have to find
a workaround, and often if a workaround is found, severity will be drowngraded
from P1 to P2. From this case it seems though that the workaround doesn't
work for everyone and then it should be P1. I do not know the SLA's BL has
to adhere to but a P1 should have a 2-4 hour resolution time, maybe 8 hours.
But if we are talking 3 days or more to maybe have a fix, people have the right
to complain. A core functionality impacting sales is broken. All hands on deck
around the clock until it is fixed.

SLAs are commercial, not technical, as I'm sure you know. Problems take as
long as they take to fix, and no amount of jumping up and down by people who
aren't involved in fixing it will fix it any quicker.

I didn't at any point say anyone had no right to complain. I said that the
opinions of people who have no first-hand knowledge (ie you, me and every other
regular user) on how something should be fixed are completely worthless. I do
think that criticisms around how this happened at this particular time are valid
though.
| All hands on deck around the clock until it is fixed.

Until your technical team are sufficiently tired that they're making things
worse. If you're running projects with that level of criticality you have
to budget for rotation of teams in emergencies, and have good (ie tested) emergency
handover protocols.

No they are not exclusively commercial, you can have SLAs for your internal service
organisation. We have. Our support teams are subject to SLA, or SLT if you will.

It's still the same principle. The point you're repeatedly missing is
that an SLA makes no difference to whether a technical solution is available
at the point of its expiry. They don't magically fix your problems, people
still need to be able to find a solution within that timeframe. Sometimes that
is simply not possible.

Yes I very well understand that but you are now arguing completely out of context

We are currently working on fixing this issue. The solution is expected to be
delivered on Monday.
The current workaround for sellers is as follows:
Turning off the feature that has 'Handling cost rule' set up or removing
the handling fee settings and manually adding a handling fee. The easiest way
to keep track of this is to leave 1 domestic and 1 foreign shipping method.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
We will keep you updated.

And what about the thousands of sellers that don't read the forum ? Wouldn't
it be a good idea to contact them with a simple email, to let them know what's
happening ?

Monday? So that means nothing is being done to fix it until Monday. The last

This, you cannot rely on communication on a forum only. I was not aware of this
issue until I came here. Totally unacceptable to not communicate to all stores
that a core functionality impacting sales has degraded.

We've in France invented a portmanteau word that could... sometimes qualify
BrickLink!
It's "attachiant".
It's built on "attached" (as we really are) and "chiant" (tiresome).
And "attachiant" sounds almost like "attachant" (endearing).
In short, love and hate in the same word - but always appealing
Thanks for fixing those bugs.
Bugs which didn't exist a few days ago
Of course, hence the above word.
Season's Greetings.

| Thanks Tanja and all others for getting this fixed quick!
I have no doubt the BL admins work really hard and with dedication. However it
seems they have way too much work on their hands. I just hope TLG understands
the importance of BL and gives you the (financial) recourses you need.

Also study not changing things during the last six weeks before Christmas. This
is the time when most sellers make their good turnover. A system problem like
this hurts many times over during the holiday selling period.

Well done… in both preserving what is arguably your vendors' most valuable
selling hours/days of the year, and reinforcing the idea that our community’s
voice is indeed heard. The latter being far more consequential, imho:

I know a bit about email so I would just advise caution in this area - the more
emails of this sort you send, the greater the likelihood of their getting flagged
as spam, and the greater the chance that you could become blacklisted (which
you definitely do not want, getting removed from a blacklist can be difficult).
You may want to look into the possibility of sending emails like this through
a third-party service specializing in mass emails/subscriptions.

I solved it by inserting instant invoice, but I do not know the ideal
solution because I cannot automatically insert the fixed costs of paypay, which,
the latter, should be solved.
However, when will the problem that still arises be solved?
Thank you.
Gianni.
