I am looking for set 918 Space Transport, new, current none are available for
sale. I have been watching eBay, no success.

Any advice / guidance?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the response.

From my investigation, depending on the condition, the prices that sold ranged
from $300-$600. Those prices were in the last 2-6 months. The sets that were
sold were not sealed, meaning open box. Sticker sheet for the space man was
untouched, sticker(s) on the sheet, not the minifig. These versions were the
ones that slid in and out (tray), not the flap version.

Thanks.

Very interesting. Do you have a photo of this copy? You can attach photos here
and it really helps us.

That is the only version that exists!

P.S. I have not seen any new copy of this set being sold recently and I don't
think it will be sold for just $600.

Hello SezaR.

To my knowledge, there are at least 3 versions of set 918, 2 versions found in
North America and the default (to keep things simple) that was sold in Europe.

The default set sold in Europe is the set with the inner tray that slides in
and out, it has the landing pad play feature on the back of the sliding tray.

The most common set that was sold in North America had only flaps, no inner tray
that slid in and out. I have attached pictures, this set I recently purchased
on eBay, it has the flaps, no tray.

The rarer set sold in North America was sold specifically in Canada, the Samsonite
box. It has the tray that slides in and out, no landing pad play feature on
the back of the tray, only stars. This hyperlink has photos, also this was the
set I saw on eBay earlier this year, and yes it did sell for under $400 (included
free shipping).

My recent white whale was a Bricklink seller located in Spain, he added a brand
new 918 set to his inventory on December 3rd, the Euro to USD was under $350.
I contacted him immediately and requested more photos, I was ready to purchase
ASAP. He responded and informed me that he had accidentally listed it for sale,
it was not for sale and removed it from his store. Joy.

I'm not an expert, but fairly familiar with these sets. It looks to me like
the two examples have the same packaging - it's just that one is missing
the inner tray. 918 wasnt sold in USA so any North American version is the Canadian
one made by Samsonite.

The auction listing seems to show an opened set with the pieces in a ziploc bag.
They may be in excellent condition, but there is no reason to think they are
new. The seller is just trying to increase the perceived value. Why would the
set have been opened except to build it?

I expect that when the set was originally sold the pieces were loose in the inner
tray, and that tray was plastic shink wrapped and then inserted into the outer
box. That's how larger sets like 924 were packaged, although the outer box
had a lift up flap to see the shrink wrapped contents inside. 918 seems to be
an unusual package with inner tray but no lifting flap.

I was given both 924 and 928 (well, 487 and 497, respectively, here in the USA)
new and I don't think it's accurate to say that the tray was shrink-wrapped
- rather, a plastic window was glued into the box to allow one to see the contents
when lifting the flap. I could be wrong though, it's been 40+ years

Hi,

As others mentioend:
- The box has one outer box and an inner tray.
- This set was only sold in Europe and Canada. (not USA)
- The difference between the European and Canadian boxes are just the details:
there are texts on the Canadian box and the prints on the back of the outer boxes
are different.
