First time this has happened:

1. Purchased around $900 in bricks from Germany on Bricklink
2. Package arrived in the US
3. US customs investigators called and said the package had been seized until
I provide CPSC testing reports.

Has this ever happened to anyone? How does one get these reports?

Very strange. It's not on their list of regulated products. Maybe point out
this fact to the CBP rep?

They said it's a children's toy and needs reports.

Don't know if it's something your CBP agent will consider, though.

You're a life safer, the certifications have the info on what to do if CBP
needs the test results. Thank you thank you!

Not that this helps, but I recall thrift stores having to destroy toys because
they couldn't verify safety standards a few years back when new regulations
came through I though it was just a California thing, but I guess not.

I'm going to guess your order got flagged due to size.

Please update us.

I will keep everyone posted.

The LEGO certification include info at the bottom for CBP to contact if they
need the tests results. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but it looks like
this should fix the issue. The investigator warned me they may take them 3 months
to fully process the investigation. Yikes!

to be able to see that a LEGO is a toy just like every other LEGO. We will get
back to you in 3 months after we sit around and do nothing with your request

Sigh...

The toy testing thing was nation wide. There was a lot of upheaval over this,
both the thrift stores and garage sellers where not happy. The result ended
up giving USED toys a pass.

Sorry I rushed it. I see this is a different product. But I'm betting
Lego has already done this....just a matter of finding it.

this doc: https://www.lego.com/cdn/cs/legal/assets/bltb4f0f036be65b110/LEGO_Conformity_Statement_-_Long_Statement.pdf

Has a may 2021 signature date. ( found a different one from Feb 2021 -- so
may be a quarterly thing )

Last section also has an email addy.... perhaps Lego would be willing to share
or post the latest in a more visible place for this community to reference.

7. Further Information

Please contact Corporate Quality at product.compliance@lego.com if you have any
questions or require more information.

Is there a trick for getting help from bricklink?

I'm trying to fix this and an account issue and I've noticed that even
when they respond to a ticket they never respond to replies or follow up questions.

I was lucky once to have Russell answer me but he hasn't responded.

Only thing I loathe more than politicians is bureaucratic BS and the complete
lack of common sense that seems to infect every single person involved in every
single bureaucracy.

Can you even imagine these guys at customs scratching their heads over a giant

this!! What a joke.

Let me start by saying this is rare event triggered by a large order.

1. Orders of toys imported into the USA need Toy Tracking Label:
https://www.cpsc.gov/Business--Manufacturing/Business-Education/tracking-label

2. You will see this information on LEGO pick-a-brick bags. Also, on request
you most be able to provide the CPSC testing results.

3. The issue with my order is the tracking label info for the manufacture wasn't
included on the bags. Additionally, CPSC requested the safety reports which LEGO
and Bricklink won't provide because "they can't attest to the authenticity
of the bricks".

So a partial solution is following the labeling requirement. There doesn't
appear to be a solution to the testing problem in the event the test results
are requested.

I don't think the labeling requirement can be followed, not for used bricks
and probably not even for new:

ALL tracking labels must contain certain basic information, including:

Manufacturer or private labeler name; -- OK!
Location and date of production of the product; -- no idea
Detailed information on the manufacturing process, such as a batch or run number,
or other identifying characteristics; and -- no idea
Any other information to facilitate ascertaining the specific source of the product.
-- no idea

It's called provenance. When buyers are sellers, and bricks/parts/figs
are flying back and forth, and being commingled with stock obtained elsewhere,
provenance goes right out the window. It's why neither BL nor TLG will backstop
CPSC certification. I don't know how else to describe this.

If this were me, I would try to find out the threshold at which customs would
get involved and keep all my orders underneath it.

Good luck,
Jen
