| I recently found and purchased a Blue Power Jet kit from a fleamarket that I
intend to sell on my store. I was told that everything is still included and
the pieces are all in their original unopened bags. From lightly shaking the
box I believe this to be the case, but I want to make sure before I list it on
my store.
The issue is twofold: 1) If I open the box to check everything is there I can
no longer sell it as "sealed", thus potentially lowering the value, and 2) I'm
not actually sure if the box is still "sealed" or not (which would make point
1 moot).
The original tape with a black bar on it (the indicator of a sealed LEGO set)
is still there, but it looks like it might have been removed and re-appled. There's
also extra tape on the side flaps that makes me think the box was previously
opened. If the original box tape wasn't there, I wouldn't be debating
whether or not the box is "sealed" or not. Also, with the extra tape that was
added on, I risk damaging the box art if I try to remove it.
Any advice? Should I open the box? Should I remove the extra tape before selling
and risk it damaging the box art? Should I just cut through the seams and leave
the extra tape? Should I just sell the kit without the box? I've included
pictures for reference.
I'd also appreciate any other perspectives on the box quality. I'd consider
it an 8/10, with the very sides being the only scuffed and taped areas with the
box in very good condition.

| Always best to be fully sure than to potentially have trouble down the road.
I would recommend opening it and verifying its contents.

| Would potential buyers balk at 'New Complete' rather than 'new sealed'
? I'd open it if it were me. I'm sure we've all heard stories of
people taking minifigs out and returning the set to the store, only to be put
back on the shelf. No idea if that is actually a thing but, seems like anything
could be in that box.

Yes, it is a thing. And when buying Lego at flea markets, liquidations, etc.
it is a significant risk that a set has been tampered with.
Better safe than sorry. Unless the seals look very nice, I'd open to check.

The value of the set is low and its part-out value is also low. This set does
not have any minifig and I don't think it has any particular valuable part.
I would List it as sealed and write
"Since it looks sealed, I cannot verify the content."
Once the buyer pays, you can ask him if he is ok you open the box to check the
content before shipping. I believe if the buyer wants to build the set, he wouldn't
mind. Nearly all buyers here are good people.

| That doesn't look new and sealed. If I got that as a buyer, I'd be very
unhappy. Sealed means the original seals, and that looks taped up. Especially
if the seller said it is all there, it implies it has been open.

I'm certain that's not still "sealed". You can see that the black rectangle
on the original tape is out of alignment, which means the tape's been either
peeled back or cut and taped over. I'd certainly want to verify that the
bags inside are still sealed before listing it as "new".

| This is not a sealed set at all. Scotch tape = it’s been opened.
It’s also not close to an 8/10 rating of the box, if so 9/10 would be without
tape and 10/10 not crushed in any way? So what about the shelf wear? Don’t try
to rate anything with numbers like that it will only give you trouble. Just list
it with a picture, state what are facts: Has scotch tape, shelf wear and dents
- picture of actual item”.
This is a definite “open up and part out - case”

| I would not part this set out, as the 6 month average new part price is about
$75. I'd open, verify, then sell it as new complete with a discription
of the box as others have said. New complete it is about $100-$115, and it
would take you forever to sell all the parts single for less money.

| I would open the box, verify the contents and see that at least inner bags are
sealed. I would then list it as new/complete and describe the box condition &
sealed inner bags etc.
I bought such a set from an online retailer thinking the box was in fair condition.
Listed as I described in the first paragraph also messaged the customer who
bought it from me about the condition of the set...
Result: I got a very good feedback from my customer, I gave a 3/5 score and a
complaint to where I bought it.
A bad surprise almost always guarantees you a bad feedback, you should handle
it beforehand...

That box has about a 99.99% chance of previously being opened. The bags might
still be sealed but the box has definitely been opened. So you should definitely
open it and check. And I'm not fussy with boxes myself, but that is nowhere
near an 8/10. Anyone who actually cares about the condition of boxes would probably
rate that around a 2 or 3/10

Maybe on this seller's scale, 10/10 is bad and 1/10 is excellent.
Otherwise I cannot see how anyone can rate it as an 8/10, as the box has surface
loss, heavy shelf wear, lots of tape, and some creasing. Which is the reason
these scales don't work, as sellers don't apply them uniformly. I dread
to think what a 1/10 box would look like. Maybe only 10% of it there.

| That box has been opened, there's a reason why the scotch tape is there.
Also, you got it at a flea market. Open it up and make sure. The few dollars
you may lose from listing it new + sealed vs new + complete is not worth paying
paypal fees, shipping both ways and annoying the buyer.
