Searching for Frankenstein I expected to find more than just the one Minifigure
therefore regardless of what their official names might be can we not at least
add the word (frankenstein) in brackets as this I'm sure is how most people
would see them?

Minifig No: mof017 Name: Monster (Frankenstein)
*
mof017 (Inv) Monster (Frankenstein)
Minifigures: Monster Fighters

Minifig No: mof020 Name: Monster Butler (Frankenstein)
*
mof020 (Inv) Monster Butler (Frankenstein)
Minifigures: Monster Fighters

Minifig No: col055  Name: The Monster, Series 4 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories) {Frankenstein}
*
col055 (Inv) The Monster, Series 4 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories) {Frankenstein}
Minifigures: Collectible Minifigures: Series 4 Minifigures

Minifig No: col222 Name: Monster Rocker, Series 14 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories)
*
col222 (Inv) Monster Rocker, Series 14 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories)
Minifigures: Collectible Minifigures: Series 14 Minifigures

Either way many of their associated parts already contain the word Frankenstein
making it a catalog inconsistency?

As far as I know and wherever possible, minifig names adhere to the 'official'
names that LEGO uses on the box art or set descriptions.

This is an issue that would disappear with a proper tag system! Be sure to write
to BrickLink and encourage them to create this system and give our admins the
tools to improve our catalog.

I suggest that it is named "Mary Shelly's monster that was originally named
Adam, but became Doctor Frankenstein's creation one dark and stormy night
made from parts from the local charnel house". That should do it.

Yeah… but the goal is for people to find them more easily… and as her name was
Shelley, your proposition wouldn’t work

I'm confused, why would searching for Frankenstein give monster results instead
of doctors?

Frankenstein was a doctor, creator of the monster

Isn't it obvious? Because most people refer to both the Creature and Creator
as simply the word Frankenstein!

I believe all the winky faces on these posts were a gentle acknowledgment of
the general confusion with the name of this character. We all get it, okay?

And, I don't believe that we won't ever get out tag system. The admins
are playing the long game here and there is no need to push so hard. I am sorry
that it has been so frustrating for you.

Some get it, Some don't get it, some are light hearted remarks, some are
wise crack remarks, some can tell the difference!

Yes obvious.
Obviously it was a joke about the general confusion of identity of Frankenstein.

It isn't Frankenstein, either. It's Frankenstein's monster.

In any case, we are not going to rename the minifigures, because they are named
after what LEGO named them.

I am sorry, but without a tag system this rabbit hole never ends. Please petition
BrickLink to provide us with a tag system that we have been asking about for
years. The more voices they hear from, the better our chances of getting it into
development and hopefully solving these issues.

Cheers,
Randy

Don't you think its a bit inconsistent to have the parts referenced as Frankenstein
and yet no mention of Frankenstein on the minifigures themselves? It should be
all or nothing? Besides if you are going to update some of the associated parts
'Frankensteins Monster' then you need to do the same for all and be consistent
about it? For example:-

Part No: 3626bpb0772 Name: Minifigure, Head Alien with Monster with Thick Eyebrows, Green Facial Lines, Open Mouth Missing Teeth Pattern - Blocked Open Stud

There is little point holding out for a tag system and using this as a reason
not to implement beneficial changes because until such time that this ever arrives
we can only make the best of the current system we have now

It was a light-hearted jab at being so pedantic about everything.

I didn't name any of those parts or rename them. They are just named what
they are from when they were added. And they were all added a long time before
I ever became an admin.

There are some written and some unwritten guidelines for minifigure names that
the past admins followed and that we currently follow when adding minifigures,
but naming parts does not have any rigid guidelines as far as descriptors go.
Therefore, the minifigures were named according to how LEGO named them, which
is one of the main guidelines we try to follow for minifigures. On the other
hand, the parts were just named by whoever was contributing the parts to the
catalog.

Don't you think its a bit inconsistent to have the parts referenced as Frankenstein
and yet no mention of Frankenstein on the minifigures themselves?

Of course. And I would love to solve it for you, but adding artificial tags to
catalog entries is not the route to take.

It should be all or nothing?

I didn't say that anywhere. But if we went all or nothing at this time, I
would be going in the opposite direction of what you are requesting and removing
"Frankenstein" from the part names to match the minifigure names.

Besides if you are going to update some of the associated parts
'Frankensteins Monster' then you need to do the same for all and be consistent
about it? For example:-

Once again, those parts were never renamed or updated. They went into the catalog
with those names back in 2011-2012.

I am sorry, but without a tag system this rabbit hole never ends.

There is little point holding out for a tag system and using this as a reason
not to implement beneficial changes because until such time that this ever arrives
we can only make the best of the current system we have now

There is a lot of point in holding out for a tag system. The admin team is unanimous
in wanting to see it developed, and I believe we will get it. The BrickLink developers
are currently fixing a lot of ancient stuff for us in our admin forms, which
will make our work more streamlined and easier. I don't want to derail them
from that, but I think we could easily push for a tag system to be added next
year as a priority. One thing I have learned as an admin is that I have to have
a lot of patience and play the long game. Unfortunately, that means the entire
user base has to play the long game along with us. Just look at how long it took
the site to get games moved from Gear to Sets (although it technically hasn't
happened yet)!

  It isn't Frankenstein, either. It's Frankenstein's monster.

Actually Mary Shelly named it Adam. She also. at times, referred to Percy Shelly
as Adam.
While she does not mention the name in the book, and never a name other than
Frankenstein's monster, it could just have that name that was never mentioned.

Cheers,
Randy

Searching for Frankenstein I expected to find more than just the one Minifigure
therefore regardless of what their official names might be can we not at least
add the word (frankenstein) in brackets as this I'm sure is how most people
would see them?

Either way many of their associated parts already contain the word Frankenstein
making it a catalog inconsistency?
