Anyone know how BL counts the pieces in a set? Simple enough question but I have
come across a set that doesn't match so please help me understand.

Lego BNIB states 65 pieces for 7410-1
BL says 62, plus 1 minifig and 6 extra pieces = 69
I can't get these to add up - and maybe Lego is wrong the BL page says it
was checked.

Thanks

Jon

Hi,

I think the answer is simple.
The parts Bricklink states are the parts used to build this set, but counts the
minifig as 1 fig(not as loose parts)
Lego states the parts that are needed(and the parts of the minifig are unassambled).
So there are a few "free" extra parts.

Kind regards,

I'm wondering about that explanation a bit. As an example ...

Set No: 3560 Name: NBA Collectors #1
*
3560-1 (Inv) NBA Collectors #1
3 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 3 Gear, 2003
Sets: Sports: Basketball

The package says cont. 10 pcs/pzs. What is actually inside the box is,
three minifigs, and three stands. The minifigs are each shipped in two partially
assembled bits (one has the hips and legs, while the other has the torso, arms/hands,
and head. None of the minifigs in this set have a hairpiece/wig. So where does
the 10th part come from, as I can only come up with 9 plastic pcs (counting factory
assembled sub-assemblies as 1 pc each). The only one of something inside is the
package of trading cards.

Then I would say the trading cards count as one piece as they are part of the
model.

Apparently the cardboard backdrop in

Extra parts are not included in any piece count. The minifigure has three parts
(torso and head came pre-assembled until ~2005 and were counted as one part)
so we have 62+3=65 parts which is also the official piece count.

No, the minifigure consists of three parts:
- hat
- torso with head
- legs

That's how they used to ship, even if there was an additional piece needed
to complete the minifigure, such as an airtank. You would have to remove the
head from the torso to put the airtank on.
