I'm curious if anyone has this information available. What year did Lego
change the molding from the "old style" to the "new style" on the musket? I'm
guessing it was in the Pirates 2 release but cannot confirm. Any help would be
appreciated (-:

I've found that set 4805 appears to have the "old style" musket and it was
produced in 1999. Set 7113 produced in 2002 appears to have the "new style" musket.
I cannot confirm this musket mold in any sets produced in 2001 (no sets dating
2000 contain this gun). Anyone happen to have one of the sets reissued in 2001
that can confirm the molding that was used on these muskets?

Thank you so much for sharing those photos! It looks like the last time the old
style 2561 mold was used was in 1999 (-:

Er, no.  If the images are of a 2001 set with the new mould, the only thing you
can say is that the new mould started to be used in 2001, not that the old one
was stopped in 2000.

LEGO uses what they have in stock.  Maybe old moulds were put in sets in 2002
or even after but no one noticed them.

Where did you find that? I just checked some Ninja sets from 1998/1999 online
(Ebay etc.) and all of them had the new variant.

The second photo artwork in bricklink shows the minifigure holding the old style
musket as far as I can see. I dont know that the artwork is accurate? Also open
box sets may not be accurate. Uhghh.
