| There are no notes describing the difference between and
- why is it not just an alternate part number?

We have a project on the catalog roadmap to try and tidy up that whole category.
It's one I want to get to as a priority when I have some time to do so

In older sets they gave just 1 tube but 1-meter long. read istructions to cut
it in pieces long 1cm, 2cm, 3cm ... you end up with many pieces fo tubes. it's
the second thing you posted.
nowdays they'll just send you many pieces of tube with right length. so they're
precut for you. it's the first thing you posted.
when buying, consider that the new ones are better.
the old ones could have diagonal ends, imprecise rims, approximation (+-2mm error
is common, since a child did it) and non-standard lengths, etc

| I would argue that a badly cut 1m hose is a damaged part, just as a pre-cut hose
can have a pinched or even a cut end itself. If there is no way to distinguish
a well-cut hose from a pre-cut hose, and no way to distinguish a poorly cut hose
from an extraneously cut pre-cut hose, I agree with Josh that using 2 part numbers
creates confusion.
