I don't usually involve myself with hate. It's a losing battle. But
I really wanted a couple of the new Santa Sleigh sets that came out this year.
But you know what happened? Two hours after they were available, they were
sold out because greedy scalpers had snapped up every set and are now reselling
them for stupidly inflated prices. These kinds of people do NOT love Lego.
They are filth and anyone reselling one of these sets should be immediately banned
from this site as punishment. Not just for this set, but because they do it
with every set, creating false scarcity to drive up the price. Once again, these
people should not be allowed on a site for people you love Lego, because they
don't, they love money. Let them trade stocks like the rest of the parasites
on the planet.

WOW! That's quite a rant, not sure I would've put it quite that way,
but I absolutely do see your point. We've missed out on a few sets for exactly
this reason, it's ridiculous to see sets sold out within minutes. Lego should
put strict buying limits in place just for this reason. Something like one per
address, at least for the first couple of weeks of release date to give everyone
chance.

They did have a limit of 2 per address.

I think this applies really to any sort of scalper, regardless of the product
in question. I'm hoping to grab one of the higher end GPUs in January, because
regardless of the price hike I need it for my work.

Some people are disgusting, and I guess that's just a reality of life we
have to gripe with.

How would you expect LEGO to implement this as an enforceable rule? Anyone selling
a product that LEGO currently sells gets banned? Bricklink would die and the
sets would still be bought then sold elsewhere.

PS. resellers didn't buy up every set. Quite a few will have gone to people
that want to build them.

Scalpers are not the cause of this issue, TLG itself is the cause. They create
limited edition sets and allow them to be sold out in matter of hours.

Blame TLG for creating limited edition sets! Why do they do it? To boost sales
and profit, no other reason exists for limited editions. They don't love
Lego, the love money.

Hate, Love, Parasites, Immediate Banning?
It’s just a well-marketed, commercialized plastic toy: Disappointment, sure.
Maybe consider big-picturing those thoughts

Now here’s some irony "creating false scarcity to drive up the price"
The very entity that you by inference declare your love for, LEGO, has had practices
mirroring the same games, at least here in North America.

I remember those earlier Limited Edition Star Wars releases, that went on seemingly
without limits. It was a running joke my son and I shared - My son: "Hey dad,
here's more of the those 'Limited Edition' sets we bought last year"
Me: "Yeah, I remember, we bought a ton of those the year before last, too"

Among more egregious examples, that I, in not willing to expose my paranoia
(especially on what is now TLG's site) won't go into.

Let's say you had the ban hammer. How exactly do you plan to separate "buying
a lot to drive up the price" from "buying a lot because it is profitable stock"?

I understand your frustration but please understand Lego sellers also have bills
to pay and mouths to feed, they don't exist solely for the idealistic purpose
of sorting through and providing you with a wealth of individual lego parts that
you could otherwise never get your hands on without their hard work. They're
neither heroes nor villains, they're just sellers.

While I agree with your rant, there are things you can do to get a better chance
at getting a highly (possibly) sought after set.

1. Find out when the first day the set will be released.
2. Log into Lego.com at midnight, EST (because that is the time that the set
will be released) and order the set.

This is what I have done for several popular sets over the last few years. I
did it for this set and was able to get 2, the limit for this set to the same
address. I purposely buy this kind of set for myself only. I hate the scalpers
too and I don't want to be one. I want my behavior to reflect my belief
that everyone should have a chance to get a set they are looking for. When buying
clearance sets to resell or part out, I will always leave a couple for someone
else. Sometimes I don't buy any until I see them still on the shelf for several
days.

It sucks, but you have to hope you can get one on release. I missed a few sets
that I wanted and I found them at retail just before EOL. After EOL the price
just goes up again. The worst times to buy a popular release is from a scalper
at first release or after EOL. Some sellers will choose those two times to sell
their popular sets.

I hope this helps you to try and get something else you really want on release
from Lego.com.

It was 2 per address.
I don't see how how TLC could have done a better job.
I got 2.
Should they have restricted it to 1? I don't think so.

In all likelihood it will be available again before Xmas - keep an eye on the
LEGO site. If not, it will be available next year. Not the end of the world.

It would have to be a pretty determined scalper to have multiple shipping addresses
to get many copies of this set for reselling. More likely if anyone is selling
many copies of this set, they have some sort of backdoor access to LEGO boxes,
maybe from a retail store.

I do not know about scalpers, but I cannot pre-order the Titanic.
My wife seems happy about that.

How many copies do you think TLG had in the production run ? 20K, 50K, 100K ?

How many do you see being scalped ?

If you had gotten one in the first place, would you even be looking for one on
the other venues ?

The best approach is to ignore the scalpers, and carry on.
