Very nice and great idea!

Some people have taken this a step further and built a LEGO LEGO sorter that
uses a raspberry Pi to match bricks by type and color and shoves them off a conveyor
belt.

I love building stuff so I'll give the guy credit on that. But can someone
explain what the point of this is?

Sort by size I suppose. I've built some things like this over the years.
None of them really benefited the sorting process in any substantial way.

I think the logic behind it (for much larger sorters) is to dump everything you've
got in to it and let it sort things in to 3-4 tranches. All large panels/bricks
stay at the top, stuff smaller than a ~2x8 goes to the second tier, stuff smaller
than a ~2x4 goes to the third tier and and all the 1x~3 stuff and smaller goes
to the bottom...

But that last tier is where all the time goes anyway so it's kind of pointless
IMO.

...but like all sorters that I have seen it doesn't really work. Notice he
doesn't actually show you the finished sorted results?

It also needs to be shaken or bigger… but his is okay because it will be put
on the side of a table….
Will his kids shake the table?
