Over the years my knowledge of what is Lego and what is another brand (or fake
Lego as I like to call it!) has increased dramatically. But today I found another
piece that I had thrown into the "get rid of Megabloks pile" was actually Lego.

This is the piece (I remember also throwing out a dark red one away about 6 months
ago):

Part No: 22411 Name: Minifigure, Plume Feather Ponytail
*
22411 Minifigure, Plume Feather Ponytail
Parts: Minifigure, Headgear Accessory

The first piece that I recall not knowing was Lego only to find out later (once
it was given away in the fake Lego pile) that it was:

Part No: 58176 Name: Bar with Light Bulb Cover (Bionicle Barraki Eye)
*
58176 Bar with Light Bulb Cover (Bionicle Barraki Eye)
Parts: Bar

So I am asking others to share which pieces they can remember that they though
were not Lego. Hopefully this can help me an others not make the same mistake.

Probably someone has already made a list of these pieces already!!!

Not thrown away, but my wife did take all the plumes and feathers off of several
new castle plume wheels from the 80's and threw them in the bulk pile.

Some plates from early gas stations in the 60s had red paint on the some edges.
I had quite a few and spent a lot of time scrapping the red off. Looked like
red finger nail polish. Looked pretty good after I was done. These are rather
rare and hard to find un-scraped.

Yep, same here, threw out one of those thinking "Why the hell would somebody
go and paint one edge of a plate?"...

Do you know what part number are these plates with painted sides? I might have
some in my garbage pile.

Years ago, I tossed probably 10 of these in my clone brand bags before I realized
they were Lego, so I went and searched through 50lbs of clone parts to find them:

Part No: 62700 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Barbed Wire Coil
*
62700 Minifigure, Utensil Barbed Wire Coil
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

Like a lot of people, I tossed these until I saw a post about them in the forum:

Part No: 424  Name: Technic Hub / Handle 1 x 1
*
424 Technic Hub / Handle 1 x 1
Parts: Technic

Found a few of these in my clone parts bag just a year ago, after I'd spent
years immersing myself in the Bricklink catalog and mistakenly thought I'd
know any part I saw:

Before I became a seller, I had a whole pile of printed parts from PAB (a lot
of Harry Potter and Star Wars), amongst which a pile of over a hundred of these:

[M=sw0984]

I had no idea what it was and I needed black bricks for my MOC, so I wiped them.

OUCH! And today I learned that PAB does printed parts.

Oh yes, took some time to identify - the first ones went into the Playmobil box:
