| So now Axle 3 is Axle 3L
I don't see any note on the page for 4519. Where was this information posted?

It wasn’t that way August 27th (last time I downloaded the catalogue).
So it might be so recent that there isn’t any log yet

There is no log if an Admin edits directly the name of a part without using the
change request form.
Seems they standardized all the axles, I tried my best sometime ago.

True, but I thought they said they tried not to do that in order to have a log.
(And there are not so many axles… lazy admins! )

Progress.

It's not that I mind the changes, but there should at least me some kind
of announcement when they blanket change these things. It's become very
annoying when my spreadsheets all the sudden come up with hundreds of errors.

I standardized all of them just a couple of days ago because they had length
dimensions that were undefined.
Axles are similar to hoses in that the length is what is being searched for.
I could search for any hose in the catalog by using a length dimension with the
"L" unit. I could not do the same for axles. I thus made it possible to search
for axles using the "L" unit.
Names of items in the catalog can change quickly, so I would suggest that you
do not link data to the names, but to the item numbers. Item numbers change much
less frequently.
Cheers,
Randy

This was a much needed change. I have finished it off by adjusting the Duplo
axles:
Half of them had the L, half didn't. For normal catalog searches, single
digit keywords like 3 and 8 are thrown out of the search. I pulled the L off
the Axle 3L name for a few minutes to do this search:
|
How about not only patching the database contents, but addressing the underlying
issue: why not eliminate the keyword exclusion mechanism altogether?
Keyword exclusion is intended for use on natural written language only, and the
item titles in the catalog are definitely not a normal flowing text. Keyword
exclusion makes no sense in this context.
This should be a single reconfiguration in the database engine (language setting)
or its indexer. As a side effect, this would finally allow for searching 'with'
versus 'without'.

I can appreciate that items in the catalog can change quickly, but I don't
think I'm unreasonable to suggest that you can at BARE MINIMUM make a post
in the catalog section of the forum stating, "hey dudes, I ninja edited over
50 entries. They won't be in the parts change log"
Can you at least plan on making a blanket change? Maybe post in the catalog
forum, "hey guys, In a day or two, we are changing the every one Technic Axle
names." Or "hey people, on the 8th of every month we are going to make a slew
of changes." This will at least give those who it will effect some time to plan
accordingly.

you know what? some of us do. What's the point of having it if it's
so unreliable that you suggest we don't use it. (part numbers change too,
so having the text data helps find those changes as well) I find it frustrating
when all the sudden I have many errors in my spreadsheets. All I ask is that
you let us know when you do it. At least when you changed all "handles" to "bar
handles" they show up in the change log. (Which I still find stupid because
all handles, except a very few, are bar handles. Why not just change the non-bar
handles to something else?)

I believe it's long past time that we add Item Name changes to the public
log. Currently they are only logged if they go through the public entry form,
which admins can use, but they tend not to because it takes twice the time.
