| Dear fellow AFOLs,
As you're probably aware TLC has formed a panel of Bricklink members to discuss
the future of our beloved platform and to exchange ideas and suggestions to improve
the user experience for all concerned and potential new users (if not, see forum
posts
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1269925 and
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1274165 for details).
The panel consists of members from different countries but also differing in
what capacity they use the platform, going from "pure" buyers like myself to
very professional sellers with mutliple staff members to run their shop.
It is very clear that the list of potential improvements for sellers is long
and the first task will be to prioritize the necessities and get them in line
with Lego's action plan for the platform.
(example: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1280110)
That said, I feel we're in danger of forgetting that this platform would
not exist without its buyers. Sellers need decent seller tools and a performant
platform to do their business and attract customers, but the platform itself
needs to be inviting to (new) buyers as well.
These days there are webstores and e-commerce platforms popping up all over the
internet selling Lego just as well as people do here. A lot of Bricklink sellers
even use different platforms to maximize their profits (not meant as a comment
tbc).
So, from a buyer's or new member's POV: what do you feel
Lego needs to implement on Bricklink to optimize your buying / browsing experience?
Feel free to share your opinion.
I fully realize there's already hundreds of suggestions made on the forum
(https://www.bricklink.com/messageList.asp?nID=1260174&ID=8&v=c&mTP=Y&max=100)
but they generally tackle very specific items or functionalities of the platform.
These past years I've seen countless posts on the "old fashioned look" of
the website for example. Let's hear some concise ideas on what could be done
to make it look better and make the browsing experience for a new member more
intuitive.
Any input is appreciated and I will do my best to be a spokesperson for buyers
in general in the Marketplace Panel.

| My priorities as a buyer are for Bricklink:
[p=3068bpb1430] To have technically capable personnel that can solve technical
site issues adequately and swiftly. Often I wonder if there is anyone at Bricklink
who still knows about the old school web and database development. Quickly solving
many small issues in a sprint should not be hindered by the long term strategic
development of the site. The fact that Bricklink personnel is still portrayed
with a on their head on mfav's comic site is saying something. Compare
Studio where every month a lot of small issues are fixed (definitely not all,
alas), as opposed to Bricklink where hardly ever anything small is fixed at all
or only after years (e.g. packaging dimension on catalog item page).
[p=3068bpb1431] To change the policy on variants. Both sellers and buyers alike
should be able to specify whether or not they distinguish specific variants,
with smart default values for those who don't bother.
[p=3068bpb1432] Add an automatically maintained relationship part versus decorated
part. For newcomers, having to rely on the naming convention only is a steep
entry point. And for the pros, this relationship has its benefits as well.
None of the above is new, but it would be nice if at least something was taken
action upon. Or communicated about. I don't believe I've ever had a single
useful reply from Briklink (plenty from members ) on my suggestions / remarks
/ questions in the forum.

| Two main things for me.
Not having to highlight with a mouse then press enter to go to a suggestion in
the search box, If I'm highlighting it with the mouse a mouse click should
work, also if after typing it I should be able to press enter and it search straight
away.
Second is having to put a * to search for variations or prints/stickers or if
you only know part of it.
on a side note I remember someone putting a suggestion on stores feedback pages
to show the country that the person left the feedback resided in, this would
be helpful as a guide to see if they have sales to your country and what the
transactions were like.

| Thanks Erikk,
Ive been a buyer for the last ten years on BL (Ive registered to sell but havent
set my store up properly yet.)
I am very used to where to find things and would hate for the platform to be
changed too much. I hate it when other sites (like lego and the well known auction
site) keep on changing things which reduces the functionality on one page.
I hope that any changes improve the functionality rather than make it so its
harder to find things.
Thanks my two cents worth.

| My idea exactly! I'm no fan myself of changing for the sake of changing or
just to make it look different without any added value.

This is the dilemma they have. Do they try to attract new buyers that have, for
whatever reason, not already joined BL or do they retain features that existing
users know how to use. If XP and tge dumbed down catalogue is what happens when
they try to attract new users, they could lose existing users but not attract
new users.
A long term existing huyer only is probably no better than a long term existing
seller only or seller + buyer when it comes to features needed to attract new
buyers.

From a buying perspective I think Bricklink needs to take as many measures as
possible to try and limit the need for buyers to read endless pages of sellers
terms. Perhaps they should simplify things by only giving sellers a certain number
of characters to use for different sections of their terms. I think it’s fair
to say that many sellers terms need to be brief and to the point. Much of this
could also be done with some simple tick boxes for common things that a seller
may want to mention in their terms as that way it’s always displayed the same
for all sellers and it allows buyers to do a quick scan before committing to
anything. For instance...
Added Fees at Checkout Yes/No
Lot Limits Yes/No
Separate Mold Variaitions Yes/No
Pet/Smoke Free Home Yes/No
Same/Next Day Shipping Yes/No
Returns Accepted Yes/No
Order Cancellations accepted Yes/No
In truth it would also be ideal if Bricklink incorporated certain standards which
are expected of all sellers so that terms cannot include statements like “I don’t
take responsibility for lost mail’ etc etc…
Likewise paypal fees should be incorporated into the price of a sellers items
and not added at the end, something I believe Bricklink should look to enforce
as it makes best price search result inaccurate which is misleading for buyers
and less of a level playing field for sellers.
I would also like to see buyers able to give an honest feedback opinion without
fear of retaliation from sellers by either using ebays feedback system or better
still create a feedback system where when a buyer or seller leaves feedback it
doesn’t actually display that feedback for anyone to see until both parties have
left feedback for each other that way neither party can be influenced by what
the other person has said.
There would obviously need to be a feedback expiration date just in case one
party chooses never to leave any feedback by which point the other persons feedback
would eventually become visible and there would be no further opportunity for
the other person to leave any feedback since their opportunity would have expired!

LOL, so it's Sinatra you're gonna denigrate now? Well, before your panties

FYI, Sinatra is just one of the many singers who sung this song throughout history.
It's not a song composed by him or even first sung by him.

I don't really see the "controlling" undertone, but I guess everyone hears

I'm sure you right. Just as many contemporary works we are familiar with,
have an earlier origin, sometimes one of many redux before becoming mainstream.
Sinatra made it mainstream, at least beyond the American culture. You know, on
everyone lips for a time.
All said without researching though, or using the link you've provided (which
I'll do later when I get more time for sating my curiosity, thanks)
Well put.
Thanks. I had seen her perform it some time ago. Thought it was a very nice rendition
"sultry" would be the description I'd use too.
